Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Weekend Care Home Cook to prepare nutritious and appealing meals for residents in a care home setting. This role involves creating wholesome dishes that meet dietary requirements while maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene. The successful candidate will play a vital part in enhancing the wellbeing and satisfaction of our residents through quality meal preparation and service during weekends.

Duties

Prepare, cook, and serve a variety of meals suitable for residents' dietary needs and preferences
Ensure all food is prepared in accordance with food safety standards and hygiene regulations
Plan menus in collaboration with the care home management, considering nutritional guidelines
Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen area, including washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and sanitising equipment
Assist with food storage, inventory management, and ordering supplies as needed
Serve meals to residents in a courteous and professional manner
Monitor food quality during preparation and presentation to ensure consistency and appeal
Adhere to all health and safety policies within the kitchen environment

Skills

Proven experience in food preparation and cooking, preferably within a care home or similar environment
Strong knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
Culinary experience with the ability to create nutritious, balanced meals
Excellent organisational skills to manage meal planning, preparation, and service efficiently
Ability to work independently during weekends with minimal supervision
Good communication skills to liaise effectively with staff and residents
Previous experience in serving or catering within a hospitality or restaurant setting is advantageous
