Job description

Tutoring Entry Level 3 – Level 2 Functional Skills English and AQA English GCSE resits to 16-19 year olds (aged up to 25 for those with an EHCP).
Co-ordinate with current English Tutor to creatively implement 100 guided learning hours of English delivery across the Society.
Embedding English knowledge and creating resources linked into the vocational areas in a creative and innovative way, including multi-construction skills, mechanics, catering, hair and beauty, and health and social care.
Supporting diagnostic assessments at the beginning of the academic year and reviewing prior learning records to ensure students are on their suitable level of study, in accordance with 16-19 funding rules.
Supporting and assessing students learning needs to ensure all lessons and examinations are accessible.
Co-ordinating with the English and Maths Delivery team to timetable effectively and cover invigilation for English exams where required.
Attending standardisation meetings throughout the year, and team meetings to continuously improve and develop the lessons to make them engaging, increase attendance and achievement rates.
To aid and promote retention of students of St Eds, enabling greater social independence and encouragement of a successful transition to further education, employment, self-employment or training.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

To plan and deliver teaching services based on assessment, in line with the setting of goals for achievement.

To create and deliver quality learning activities and use a variety of learning resources.
To identify the need of learners and use scaffolding techniques to support to achieve.
To identify learning styles and to support candidates with barriers to learning in a mentoring, facilitator capacity.
Ensure lesson plans and Scheme of Work is regularly reviewed and revised to meet curriculum changes and needs of students.
Complete the daily register in a timely manner, reporting any missing students promptly. Directly encouraging students to attend all lessons.
Complete daily engagement and behaviour logs on Management Information System – Arbor. Record any safeguarding concerns on CPOMS. Liaising directly with the safeguarding leads within the welfare team on any urgent matters.
To empower all our students to achieve City and Guilds functional skills and AQA GCSE qualifications related to the awarding body. This includes assessing individual barriers to learning and working with other staff to identify appropriate learning strategies.
Liaison with the IQA Manager and exams representatives for registration and invigilation across the organisation where appropriate.
To assess and ensure provision of effective initial assessment of potential learners and review.
To effectively track and monitor student progress through formative assessments, and half-term reviews.
To initiate support and advance the personal development of the students attending the Training Centre.
To work with the Welfare Support Officer’s offering mentoring, pastoral care, guidance and advice where appropriate.
To aid and promote retention of students on programme, enabling greater social independence and awareness of British Values to ensure successful transition to further education, employment, self-employment or training.
To work alongside the IQA Manager and Welfare Manager to report concerns around student engagement, progress against specified end dates and to ensure warnings are processed timely.
To identify creative ways alongside the Tutor and IQA Managers where embedded learning can be integrated across the centre’s wider vocational curriculum.
Work with the Internal Quality Assurance Officer to record achievement progress against national benchmarks.
To embed extracurricular topics including ice-breaker and group discussion activities in relation to Prevent, Safeguarding, Cyber Bullying, British Values, and Equality and Diversity.
Enhance and implement digital skills development.

Other responsibilities

To support break time lunch duties, alongside the rest of the team.

To provide general advice and guidance, attend internal meetings, providing feedback when needed.
To undertake Continual Professional Development (CPD) some of which you may be required to undertake in your own time, ensuring that all vocational and teaching and learning knowledge is current and up to date.
Attend mandatory training for Child Protection and Safeguarding, Prevent as required.
