Abingdon & Witney College is looking for an inspirational and motivated Lecturer in Public Services to deliver high-quality teaching across our Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Public Services programmes. This is an exciting opportunity to help learners develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for careers in the police, armed forces, fire and rescue service, prison service and wider public sector professions.

Our Public Services curriculum combines academic study with practical, career-focused learning, helping students build confidence, resilience, teamwork, leadership and employability skills as they prepare for progression into higher education, apprenticeships or employment.

About the Role

Planning and delivering engaging and innovative Public Services lessons.
Supporting learners to achieve outstanding outcomes and progress towards their career goals.
Designing and producing high-quality learning resources.
Assessing student work and providing timely, constructive feedback.
Delivering tutorial and pastoral support to promote learner wellbeing and success.
Monitoring learner progress and implementing appropriate interventions where required.
Promoting equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding throughout teaching and learning.
Contributing to curriculum development, enrichment activities and employer engagement opportunities.
Working collaboratively with colleagues to provide an outstanding learner experience.

About You

Qualified to degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area.
Experience teaching within the Public Services curriculum or a closely related field.
Qualified teacher, or is willing to work towards qualification.
Excellent teaching, communication and interpersonal skills.
Passionate about public services and supporting learner achievement.
Can engage and motivate learners from a wide range of backgrounds.
A strong understanding of safeguarding and student welfare.
Committed to continuous professional development and educational excellence.

Desirable

Experience teaching in a post-16 environment.
BTEC Lead Internal Verifier qualification.
Relevant industry experience or employer links within the public services sector.
Strong digital skills and experience using educational technologies.

Any successful candidates will be required to complete a structured training pathway, unless they already hold the relevant qualifications. This includes a two-week teacher induction (must be completed within probation), followed by the Award in Education and Training (AET) including Assessor is required, and then the Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher (LST) apprenticeship. Completion of this structured learning programme is expected within 3 years. Furthermore, there is the option to pursue Qualified Teacher Learning Status (QTLS).
