Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Children's Residential Team Leader to oversee the care and support of children in a residential setting. This role requires strong leadership skills and the ability to develop and implement care plans tailored to each child's needs. The ideal candidate will possess a background in care homes or senior care, along with experience in supervising teams. You will play a vital role in fostering a safe, nurturing environment that promotes the well-being and development of the children.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management:

Lead, motivate, and supervise a team of residential support workers, ensuring a consistent and child-focused approach.
Support staff through regular supervision, coaching, performance management, and development plans.
Take a lead role in staff induction, training, and shift planning.
Act as the responsible person in the absence of the Registered or Deputy Manager.
Have a sound knowledge on the Children home regulations 2015 and 9 Quality standard.
Support with updating risk assessments, care plans and creating key work session planners.
Support with overseeing young people’s finances.
Follow the team leader/deputies weekly/monthly checklist
Supporting deputies and managers to complete medication audits.
Ensuring that weekly reports are completed and sent to social worker.

Child-Centred Care:

Promote and maintain a safe, nurturing, and structured environment for children and young people aged 8-17 years old.
Ensure care is provided in line with individual care plans, risk assessments, and placement objectives.
Encourage and support children’s emotional, educational, social, and physical development.
Manage challenging behaviour in a positive and therapeutic manner, following behaviour support plans.

Safeguarding & Compliance:

Ensure the safeguarding and welfare of children is always paramount and report any concerns promptly in line with procedures.
Maintain accurate records and ensure documentation meets Ofsted standards and legislative requirements.
Contribute to inspections, audits, and quality assurance processes.

Communication & Partnership:

Build strong working relationships with children, families, external professionals (e.g., social workers, education providers, health services), and internal staff.
Attend and contribute to reviews, planning meetings, and case conferences as required.
Ensure young people 6 months reports are completed before their CLA reviews

Operational Duties:

Oversee daily routines including meals, activities, appointments, and education.
Participate in the on-call rota and support out-of-hours issues when necessary.
Administer medication safely and in line with policy.
Ensure the home environment is well maintained, homely, and compliant with health and safety standards.
Support with completing the monthly newsletter

Responsibilities

Lead and supervise a team of care staff, ensuring high standards of care are maintained at all times.
Develop, implement, and review individual care plans for each child, ensuring they meet their specific needs and goals.
Foster positive relationships with children, promoting their emotional and social development through engaging activities.
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and policies related to children's residential care.
Maintain accurate records of children's progress and incidents, reporting any concerns to management promptly.
Communicate effectively with children, families, and external professionals to ensure a collaborative approach to care.
Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in children's residential care.

Skills

Proven experience in supervising teams within a care home or similar environment is essential.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire staff members.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, enabling effective interaction with children, families, and colleagues.
Knowledge of developing and implementing care plans tailored to individual needs.
Level 5 in Children & Residential Care - Management & Leadership
Proficiency in IT systems for record keeping and reporting purposes.
A valid driving licence is preferred to facilitate transportation as required for outings or appointments. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about making a difference in the lives of children while leading a dedicated team in a rewarding environment.

Person Specification:

Essential:

Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a children’s residential setting
At least 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience
Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and relevant legislation (e.g. Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards)
Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to lead by example and manage team dynamics effectively
Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and participate in sleep-ins/on-call as required

Desirable:

Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or working towards)
Experience working with children with emotional, behavioural, or complex needs
PACE training & PBS trained
First Aid, Team Teach, or other relevant training

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: £15.00-£18.50 per hour
