About Us

The Norway Inn is a well-established and highly regarded pub and restaurant located in Perranarworthal, near Truro. Known for our quality food, welcoming atmosphere, and commitment to excellent customer service, we pride ourselves on delivering a memorable dining experience for every guest.

Due to continued growth, we are now looking for a passionate and experienced Sous Chef to join our talented kitchen team. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a key leadership role within a supportive and professional environment, with accommodation available for the right candidate.

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and capable Sous Chef to support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about food, confident leading a team, and committed to delivering consistently high standards.

Working closely with the Head Chef, you will play a key role in maintaining food quality, presentation, cleanliness, stock control, and kitchen efficiency. You will also help lead, motivate, and develop junior members of the kitchen team.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation and service of high-quality dishes to company standards
Support the Head Chef with the daily operation of the kitchen
Help lead service periods, ensuring consistency, quality, and smooth kitchen performance
Supervise, train, and support junior chefs and kitchen team members
Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness and organisation throughout the kitchen
Ensure full compliance with food safety, health and safety, and hygiene regulations
Support stock control, food rotation, ordering, and waste management procedures
Contribute ideas towards menu development and seasonal specials
Promote a positive, professional, and team-focused kitchen culture
Step up to lead the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence when required

Requirements

Previous experience in a Sous Chef, Junior Sous Chef, or strong Chef de Partie role
A genuine passion for food and hospitality
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy kitchen environment
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Confident leading by example and supporting the development of junior team members
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a professional kitchen environment
Knowledge of food hygiene regulations and SFBB procedures
Experience supervising or mentoring junior team members
Relevant catering or hospitality qualifications are advantageous but not essential
Food Safety certification preferred
