Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Permanent Position | Plymouth Office
Nevada Construction is looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team, based in our Plymouth office.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a foundation in quantity surveying or construction to develop their skills while working as part of an experienced, supportive project team.
The role will involve assisting with project measurement, cost estimation, financial tracking, procurement, subcontractor management, reporting, and contractual administration across a range of construction projects.
Working under the guidance of our experienced Quantity Surveyors, you will support Site Managers, Project Managers, and wider project teams to help ensure projects are delivered efficiently, commercially, and in line with programme requirements.
The role
As Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial management of projects from early cost planning through to delivery.
You will assist with the preparation of project estimates, cost plans, pricing of variations, procurement activities, subcontractor payments, and financial reporting. The role will also involve supporting client and contract communications, attending meetings, responding to technical queries and RFIs, and helping to identify and manage project risks.
This position would suit someone who is organised, numerate, detail focused, and keen to develop their career within quantity surveying and construction commercial management.
Key responsibilities
- Supporting project measurement, cost estimation, and financial tracking
- Assisting with the preparation of project budgets, cost plans, and variation pricing
- Supporting subcontractor management, including payment applications and payment certificates
- Helping with procurement, including enquiries, order placements, and supplier communication
- Attending project and contract meetings, supporting clear communication with clients and project teams
- Assisting with financial reporting, compliance records, and project cost updates
- Supporting the wider project team with commercial queries, RFIs, risk management, and problem solving
About you
The role is ideally suited to someone with foundational knowledge of quantity surveying and construction who is looking to continue developing their skills within a practical project environment.
You will be comfortable working with numbers, project information, and commercial documentation, while also being able to communicate professionally with colleagues, clients, consultants, and supply chain partners.
We are looking for someone with
- A basic understanding of quantity surveying and construction processes
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Good Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills
- Strong organisation skills and attention to detail
- A collaborative, professional, and customer focused approach
- The ability to communicate clearly with clients, consultants, site teams, surveyors, and the supply chain
- An interest in wider construction areas, including materials, building methods, regulations, and health and safety
- A full UK driving licence
Desirable qualifications and experience
- GCSEs in Maths and English, or equivalent
- Previous experience in a construction, commercial, or development role
- Studying towards, or recently completed, a Quantity Surveying degree, HNC, HND, or similar qualification
