More about your role

We're looking for a Building Services Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis over the summer months, supporting our maintenance services at York University's Heslington East Campus.

This is a hands-on, fast-paced role where you'll help keep student accommodation and shared spaces safe, well maintained and welcoming. Working closely with the wider maintenance team, you'll support both planned and reactive maintenance tasks, always with a strong focus on customer satisfaction and minimising disruption for residents.

This is a 12-week temporary contract, working 40 hours per week, and is ideal if you enjoy practical work, variety in your day and being part of a supportive team.

Essential Criteria

Ability to carry out basic maintenance tasks such as decorating, joinery and minor repairs
Strong customer service skills with a helpful, approachable attitude
Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others
Self-motivated, organised and able to prioritise tasks
Willingness to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

More about you

As our Building Services Assistant you will be responsible for supporting the maintenance team with day-to-day upkeep of buildings, bedrooms, kitchens and communal areas. You'll carry out first-response fixes where possible, report issues promptly and follow all health and safety procedures at all times.

You enjoy practical, physical work and take pride in doing a job well. You're comfortable working with minimal supervision, using your initiative while also following instructions closely. Most importantly, you understand the impact your work has on residents and always put their experience first.
