Full job description

Overview
We are a growing structural engineering practice looking for motivated individuals to join our team as Survey Assistants. You will work alongside qualified structural engineers on residential properties, helping to record existing site conditions that inform our structural design proposals. This role will suit someone equally comfortable working as part of a team and taking ownership of tasks independently. No prior construction experience is required — if you're detail-oriented, reliable, and comfortable working on-site, we want to hear from you.

What you'll be doing

Attending residential properties with a structural engineer to carry out pre-works site inspections.
Measuring and recording existing structural elements including walls, beams, floors, and roof structures.
Taking clear, detailed notes to document existing site conditions against the proposed works plan.
Supporting the assessment of projects such as loadbearing wall removals, chimney breast removals, rear extensions, and loft conversions.
Photographing existing conditions and annotating site drawings as directed.
Working independently on solo site visits once confident, as well as collaborating closely with the engineering team on larger or more complex inspections.
Communicating observations clearly back to the lead engineer during and after each visit

What we're looking for

Good numeracy and the ability to take accurate measurements using a tape measure and/or laser measure.
Strong attention to detail — you need to notice and record things precisel.y.
Clear and legible note-taking and basic sketching ability.
A methodical, thorough approach to tasks with the confidence to work independently when required.
A collaborative mindset — able to take direction and communicate well within a team.
Comfortable working within occupied homes and on active construction sites.
Full UK driving licence (preferred) — sites can be spread across the region

Rear and side extensions
Loft Conversions
