Children’s Residential Support Worker
Athena Care Group

Location: In person – Bryn, Port Talbot
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £27,922.20 – £30,621.00 per year
Sleep-ins: £60 per shift (average 5 per month – approx. £3,600 per year)
Sponsorship: Not available

About the Role

Athena Care Group is looking for an experienced and qualified Children’s Residential Support Worker to join and help complete our established team.

This role is ideally suited to someone who holds a QCF Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Children and Young People) and has proven experience working within a residential childcare setting. You will play a key role in supporting children and young people who are unable to live with their families, ensuring they feel safe, supported, and valued.

We are seeking someone who brings confidence, resilience, and a strong understanding of residential care, along with a genuine passion for helping young people thrive. This is a rewarding but sometimes challenging role, where your experience and qualification will be essential in maintaining high standards of care.

Key Responsibilities

Support children and young people with daily routines and activities
Contribute to care planning and risk assessments
Promote independence, emotional wellbeing, and positive behaviour
Safeguard children and advocate for their needs
Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals
Maintain accurate records and documentation
Help provide a safe, stable, and nurturing home environment

Shift Pattern

14.5-hour shifts including sleep-ins (overnight)
Approximately 3 shifts per week
Around 173 hours per month
2 weekends per month
Block shifts with rest days in between

Duties include school runs, household tasks, preparing meals, supporting routines, record-keeping, and completing sleep-in responsibilities.

Essential Requirements

QCF Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People)
Experience working in a residential childcare setting
Aged 21 or over (in line with care regulations)
Full UK manual driving licence (6 points or less)
Eligible for an Enhanced DBS check (update service preferred)
