Full job description

What is in it for you?

You will enjoy working in a rural location with fantastic onsite indoor and outdoor facilities and resources.
You will have the opportunity to develop your mentoring skillset to become an expert in supporting students with specialists needs.
Working in an established, supportive team of 17 Mentors, you will be able to share best practice ideas in helping support the students that we work with.

Full time salary: Actual pay £20,550 - £24,800 depending on knowledge, skills and experience (full time equivalent 39-week term time contract).

There is further potential opportunity to earn up to an additional £1200 per annum for extra responsibilities.

We will also offer a welcome bonus of £200 which you will receive half of at the point of joining us and half once probation has been successfully passed.

Working hours: Full time - Monday to Friday: 08.45 - 17.00 or Part Time - (three full days a week, 08.45 – 17.00) 1.5 hours for lunch and breaks.

The Role

Flourish at the Farm is a reputable Alternative Provision that provides a practical and outdoor learning education in a therapeutic environment. We are a provision that is approved by Warwickshire County Council and other Local Authorities and have supported over 100 schools throughout the Midlands.

The role of an Alternative Provision Mentor is to support students which range between the ages of 7-18 with curriculum learning (KS1, 2, 3 & 4), as well as working with them to develop life skills and achieve independence.

We also have a newly established Post 16 programme where Mentors work with older students (16-25) getting them ready for the next stage of their life.

A typical day will be spent working one to one (groups also take place for Post 16) with varying students either indoors or outdoors on set of diverse activities which are student led with the support of their Mentor.

There may be times when you need to adapt your mentoring style when things aren’t going to plan. The ability to listen, remain calm, consistent and patient is key in these situations.

You will be required to complete administration tasks such as reporting relating to student progress.

What we are looking for

You will have previous demonstrable Teaching Assistant/Mentor experience working with children/young people with neurodiversity especially autism, ADHD and high levels of anxiety.

The essential skills required are as follows:

GCSE Grade C or above in English and Mathematics, or Level 2 Teaching Assistant equivalent qualification.
The ability to effectively manage students with challenging behaviours and motivate students.
Excellent communication skills and supportive, positive and non-judgemental attitude.
Awareness of health and safety procedures or willingness to undertake training.
Be flexible and very responsive in approach to teaching styles and methods.
Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
