Learning Support Practitioner (term-time only)

About Us

Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change (CN4C) is a charity and a social enterprise that aims to transform the quality of life for people, places and communities.

We’ve been around since 2001 and are focused on affecting change that will make lives better, make Cornwall fairer and combat inequality and injustice.

We are now looking for a Learning Support Practitioner to join our team on a part-time (between 19.5 and 32.5 hours per week), term-time only contract starting on 24th August 2026 to support young people aged 16 to 24 to achieve and succeed into adult life and beyond through education. This role will be based in Redruth and your hours will be three to five days per week between 9:15 and 16:30. Initial contract for this academic year with potential for continuation in the next academic year depending on funding.

The Role

As a Learning Support Practitioner, you will join our small team working with young adults on our educational programme. You will support individual or small groups of learners in the achievement of their learning goals and the development of independent life and employability skills. This will include the learner’s English, Maths and IT skills as well as supporting them in their vocational studies and going with them to work experience placements.

You may also support learners with communication, behaviour, emotional difficulties and social anxiety, as well as personal care, personal hygiene needs and basic medication in some instances.

You will be actively and regularly involved in the reviews of a learner’s support plan, taking into account the learner’s progress and any changes to the learner’s own ambitions and aspirations, which may lead to changes in the type and level of their support. You will aim to work with learners to develop independent study skills and strategies to assist in their own learning. You will support the learner’s journey through administrative tasks associated with the classroom environment.

About You

To join us as a Learning Support Practitioner, you will need:

A commitment to inclusive learning and a willingness to gain an understanding of students with Special Education Needs
A sensitive and caring approach to learners
Good communication and written skills
To be an effective team worker but able to work on your own initiative
To be able to adapt quickly to changing priorities
The ability to work with learners in groups
To be competent in IT
At a minimum, a Level 2 or above in English and Maths or equivalent, or be willing to work towards these qualifications.

Experience in supporting/working with learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities is essential.

A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle would also be desirable.

Placement in this role will be subject to receipt of two satisfactory references and a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.

This is a part-time role working between 19.5 and 32.5 hours per week across three days on a term-time only contract. This role will start on 24th August 2026 and is initially a fixed-term contract to 31st August 2027.

Some flexibility to work evenings and weekends will be required, as will the ability to travel to different locations at short notice.
