Job description

We are seeking a motivated and experienced policing professional to join a high-performing team supporting the development of evidence-based standards, guidance and programmes that improve professional practice across policing.

In this role, you will contribute to the drafting, development and delivery of national policing products within your area of subject matter expertise, with a particular focus on neighbourhood policing, response policing and contact management. A key element of the role will be supporting the development of Neighbourhood Authorised Professional Practice (APP) and the delivery of the Neighbourhood Policing Programme, ensuring products and programmes reflect operational realities, current evidence and national priorities.

You will be joining a collaborative and supportive team of homeworkers who work closely together, share knowledge and expertise, and are committed to delivering high-quality products and programmes for policing. Although home-based, the team is highly connected, values strong working relationships and takes pride in creating a positive, supportive and effective working environment.

The role will involve some travel to support engagement, consultation, delivery activity and collaboration with forces and partners. This travel is an expected part of the role and will be fully funded.

You will work closely with police forces, national policing leads, government departments, partner agencies and wider stakeholders to ensure products and programmes are informed by evidence, operational learning, emerging practice and the needs of the service.

The role requires someone who can build strong relationships, engage credibly with practitioners and senior leaders, and translate complex operational issues into practical, evidence-based guidance and programme activity.

Person specification

Some of your responsibilities will include:

Research and develop own subject matter knowledge and work with the Policing Standards Managers and other colleagues to provide support, guidance and advice to Police Forces and other agencies within areas of subject matter expertise to identify and develop policies and solutions to current issues and share knowledge to enable consistent approaches across policing.
Work with Client Services, Curriculum, Assessment and Accreditation, Delivery Services and Police Forces and agencies to identify learning and development opportunities and demands arising from relevant standards and guidance and ensure these are considered in formulating curriculum requirements and training delivery plans.
Work with Evidence and Evaluation Advisors and Policing Practice Developers to collect, interpret and critically evaluate information and best available evidence from a range of sources to determine and develop cost-efficient, value for money options and opportunities for policing standards, APP and guidance which promote professional approaches and deliver improvements in working practices across policing.

To be successful in this role youll need:

Experience of neighbourhood policing, response policing and contact management, using an evidence-based approach to develop and/or establish standards for professional practice in private and/or public sector organisations
Proven ability quickly to build rapport creating strong, effective, credible, and successful partnerships with the ability to negotiate and facilitate positive outcomes
Exhibit personal qualities and behaviours which are a role model for others being open to receive challenge and feedback; value diversity and difference; and to work as part of a team to get the job done
