Job description

Support and Intervention Team

As part of national policing reforms, a new capability has been established in the College to help forces tackle issues that may be impacting quality of service to the public. Part of this capability includes the set-up of a new specialist support team designed to work directly with forces to make tangible improvements, drive cultural and operational reform and build public confidence. These roles offer a chance to work at the centre of national policing performance improvement.

Were looking for Performance Improvement Support Officers each to cover one of the following HMICFRS PEEL inspection areas:

preventing and deterring crime and antisocial behaviour, and reducing vulnerability
investigating crime,
safeguarding adult and children at risk of harm

You will play a key role in supporting forces to improve performance. Working as part of a specialist College team, you will help diagnose the root causes of performance challenges in forces and contribute to the development of practical, evidence based and holistic performance improvement options and implementation plans. You will maintain strong working relationships with practitioners delivering change and coordinate peers, associates and other externally procured resources where required.

The roles will involve staying ahead of innovation and emerging practice, identifying promising approaches across policing and partner organisations, and working with the College, NPCC and Home Office to share and embed what works nationally.

Person specification

Some of your responsibilities will include:

Leading, designing and managing short/medium term projects specially commissioned to support performance improvement and drive efficiency and effectiveness for forces.
Developing and maintaining relationships with senior internal College and external stakeholders (for example Home Office, NPCC, CPS, IOPC etc),
Actively seeking out good practice and innovation and sharing with forces

To be successful in this role youll need:

Subject matter expertise in one or more of the following HMICRS PEEL inspection areas
- Preventing and deterring crime and antisocial behaviour, and reducing vulnerability (Neighbourhood Policing)
- Investigating crime and managing suspects, OR
- Safeguarding adult and children at risk of harm
Recent experience of working and leading performance improvement in a policing environment
Skilled at leading high performing teams, working collaboratively and flexibly across a matrix environment
