The Control & Instrumentation (C&I) team is responsible for delivering safe, secure and technically robust control, protection, communication and monitoring systems across the power station. These systems underpin safe plant operation while ensuring reliable communications and data connectivity across the SMR facility.
As a Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer – Information & Communications Technology (ICT), you will provide technical expertise across the design and development lifecycle of the Communication and Information Systems that support the SMR operational network.
This includes the design and implementation of telephony systems, radio communications, public address and broadcast systems, data networks, wireless infrastructure and supporting ICT systems. You will be responsible for system architecture development, subsystem design, component specification, equipment selection and integration to deliver a fully verified and operational solution.
Working closely with other C&I teams, Security specialists, Corporate IT and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will apply structured systems engineering methodologies to develop secure, reliable and resilient ICT systems that support power station operations.

Support the design and development of Communication and Information Systems across the SMR programme

Develop system architectures, including network architectures and supporting infrastructure

Deliver telephony, radio, broadcast communication and operational data network solutions

Define system requirements, specifications and implementation strategies

Support selection, specification and integration of ICT equipment and technologies
-
Ensure systems are secure, resilient and compliant with applicable requirements
-
Collaborate with Security, Corporate IT and engineering teams across the organisation

Develop and maintain standards, reference architectures and supporting documentation
-
Provide technical support to programme delivery teams and suppliers
-
Manage technical interfaces with stakeholders and delivery partners
-
Act as a responsible designer and intelligent customer where appropriate
-
Coach and mentor less experienced engineers
-
Support technical reviews and provide clear recommendations to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders

Experience across the design and implementation lifecycle of communication and information systems

Experience within highly regulated, safety‑critical or security‑sensitive industries such as Nuclear, Defence, Aerospace or Critical National Infrastructure

Strong understanding of voice and telephony systems, including traditional and unified communications platforms

Experience with radio communication systems and broadcast communication solutions
-
Knowledge of operational and enterprise data networking technologies
-
Experience with LAN, WAN, Wi‑Fi, SD‑WAN, SDN and data centre networking
-
Understanding of network security principles and network‑centric security architectures
-
Knowledge of remote access and connectivity technologies
-
Experience designing resilient and fault‑tolerant systems
-
Understanding of cybersecurity and industrial communication standards, including IEC 62443
-
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
-
Ability to present complex technical concepts to technical and non‑technical audiences
-
Experience providing technical oversight and acting as an intelligent customer
Experience with the following technologies would be advantageous:

TETRA, DMR, P25 or LTE/MCX communication systems
-
Cisco, Siemens, Mitel, Motorola, Fortinet or similar technology platforms
-
Degree‑qualified in an Engineering or related technical discipline
-
Familiarity with IEC 62443 and secure system design principles

Equivalent knowledge and experience will also be considered
Hybrid working with one of the following as your primary site:
Derby, Manchester or Warrington.
The salary band for this role will be between £50,650 – £66,500 dependent on the skills, values and knowledge you bring. There may be flexibility with the starting salary in exceptional cases.
