Full job description

Job Overview
We are looking for a Junior Quantity Surveyor to join our team.

Working from our offices in Sheffield, this challenging and exciting position offers a role with excellent career and development prospects and an opportunity to make a real difference in a dynamic, design-led company embarking on a significant expansion and business development programme.

We require an organised individual who can work at a fast pace, likes to get things done, and who will be a confident and effective communicator both verbally and written. You must have a full working knowledge of Microsoft Office components, with the ability to work on your own initiative or as part of a team.

Duties

Cost Estimation & Budgeting

Assist in cost planning, budgeting, and forecasting for refurbishment projects, ensuring accuracy and alignment with financial objectives.
Support the development of cost estimates, considering materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor rates.

Contract & Procurement Support

Assist in the preparation of contracts, negotiating terms under senior supervision.
Work alongside senior estimators and quantity surveyors to support procurement strategies.

Value Engineering & Risk Mitigation

Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or project objectives.
Support the analysis of financial risks associated with project estimates.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

Maintain strong professional relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Assist in providing clear and accurate cost reports to internal and external stakeholders.

Performance Monitoring

Support the tracking of project costs, identifying variations and ensuring effective financial management.
Assist in monitoring project expenditure against budgets and agreed forecasts.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree, HNC, or HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
Working towards professional certification (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is desirable.

Experience:

Some experience (placement, internship, or work experience) in estimating or quantity surveying within the interior fit-out, refurbishment, or construction industry.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in cost estimation software, (Bluebeam), advanced Excel skills, and familiarity with construction management systems (Powerproject)
Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.

Soft Skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills.
Team-oriented mindset, with a proactive approach to learning.
