Job Summary
Brackenfield School is an area special school for the South of Derbyshire, providing an exciting and relevant education for young people with complex needs including communication and comprehension difficulties.

The Headteacher and Governors wish to appoint a Family Support Worker for:

37 hours a week / 41 Weeks per annum.

Mon, Tue, Thu & Fri: 08:00-16:00 & Wed 09:00 – 16:30 (7am-7pm flexible working, to support with home visits, never exceeding 37 hours a week)

Salary £30,699 FTE / Pro Rata £21,565.95.

The successful candidate will join an experienced team of teachers, STLAs (Specialist Teacher and Learning Assistants) and LSAs (Learning Support Assistants) who support young people aged 3 to 19, working developmentally between birth and 6years of age.

Responsibilities.

Level Purpose: To offer early help to families

Typical Reporting Line: Vulnerable Educational Needs Coordinator

Typical Supervisory Responsibility: None

Setting:Maintained Special School

Generally, Representative, Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Works within defined practices and regulations but not closely supervised, requires use of judgement to deal with a range of differing situations, may involve planning support using available interventions.

Typical Tasks

Help parents/carers to develop parenting and home managing skills
Support parents who have children with disabilities
Support parents who have disabilities
Work with social workers to assess a family’s need when a child returns to home after being in care

Effective communication to engage and influence pupils, staff and carers.

Liaising and negotiating with a wide range of statutory and voluntary agencies to build effective relationships.

Typical Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Typically level 3 standards of education and substantial relevant experience.

Significant experience as relevant to the function area, such as multi agency working, participating in multi-agency meetings, such as team around the child meetings.

Knowledge of school policies and procedures including, Safeguarding, First Aid, Health & Safety. Statutory responsibilities of schools, financial regulations, data protection and security.

Qualifications

Demonstrable levels of numeracy and literacy equivalent to GCSE (A-C)
Level 3 qualification in appropriate subject (childcare, social care, youth work or education)
Relevant qualifications for SEND and or National Learning Mentor Training
A criminal records check is required as part of the recruitment process

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

Expert knowledge of current early help legislation and guidance
Demonstrable experience of managing multiple and complex cases and of overseeing casework systems
Substantial experience of meaningful engagement with children, their families and / or vulnerable groups in any sector
Experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders
Proven ability to engage with colleagues, leadership and external partners
Experience of working or volunteering with diverse communities
Strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
Ability to make decisions and personal judgement of when to refer upwards
Ability to understand the context of a family and use this understanding to find pragmatic solutions
Exceptional verbal communication, listening and presentational skills to quickly establish credibility and confidence with people at all levels
Ability to work on own initiative with little day to day supervision

Excellent interpersonal skills across a highly diverse range of audiences and contexts
A high level of self-awareness and emotional intelligence
An aptitude for conflict resolution when dealing with sensitive issues
Someone who can build rapport at all levels
A genuine passion for good customer service
A passionate and confident manner, able to inspire partners and share expertise
Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
