Full job description

Join our growing team as a Support Worker / Residential Care Worker and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children, young people and adults across a variety of care and support settings.

We work with a wide range of services supporting individuals with Learning Disabilities (LD), Mental Health needs, Autism, challenging behaviours, emotional and behavioural needs, and other complex support needs.

With lots of potential service users and ongoing opportunities, we're looking for reliable, compassionate and confident Support Workers who can work across adult supported living services, residential settings and children's residential homes.

Depending on the service and individual you are supporting, your role may involve promoting independence, providing emotional and practical support, assisting with daily living and helping individuals achieve their personal goals.

You'll play an important part in creating a safe, supportive and person-centred environment where every individual is treated with dignity, respect and compassion.

Duties

Build positive and trusting relationships with children, young people and adults, providing appropriate emotional and practical support.
Support individuals with Learning Disabilities, Mental Health needs, Autism, challenging behaviours and complex needs.
Assist with daily routines, which may include personal care, meal preparation, medication support, household tasks and recreational activities.
Encourage and support individuals to develop independence, confidence, communication and everyday life skills.
Follow and contribute to individual care plans, support plans and risk assessments.
Provide appropriate support when individuals display behaviours that may challenge, following agreed strategies and procedures.
Support service users to access the community, attend appointments, participate in activities and maintain social relationships.
Maintain accurate records including daily notes, progress updates, incidents and care documentation.
Safeguard the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and report any concerns appropriately.
Communicate effectively with colleagues, families, social workers, healthcare professionals and other external professionals.
Provide safe transportation to appointments, education or activities where required and where appropriate to the role.

Skills & Experience

Previous experience within Supported Living, Children's Residential Care, Adult Social Care, Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, Autism or similar support environments is highly desirable.
Experience supporting individuals with challenging behaviours or complex needs would be particularly beneficial.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build professional relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Confidence following detailed care plans, behaviour support plans and risk assessments.
A compassionate and person-centred approach to care and support.
Patience, resilience and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
Good written and IT skills for completing care records and documentation.
A full UK driving licence is beneficial for roles involving community access and transportation.
Relevant care qualifications and training are advantageous, although experience and attitude are equally important.
