Job Overview

Working Hours and Sleep-In Duties

This position includes:

12 contracted support hours per week
3 sleep-in shifts per week, paid at £52 per sleep-in shift

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Part-Time Support Worker to join our team supporting young people aged 16–18 in a supported accommodation setting. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about empowering young people to develop independence, confidence, and essential life skills as they prepare for adulthood.

You will provide practical and emotional support, promote positive outcomes, and help maintain a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

Support young people with developing independent living skills, including budgeting, cooking, education, employment, and financial responsibilities.
Build positive and professional relationships with young people.
Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and positive behaviour.
Complete accurate records, reports, and daily notes.
Support young people to access education, training, healthcare, and community resources.
Participate in key-working sessions and support planning.
Maintain a safe and welcoming living environment.
Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies, and safeguarding concerns.
During sleep-in shifts, employees are expected to remain on-site overnight and be available should support be required.

While sleep-in duties are the primary requirement of the role, there may be occasions where emergency situations require additional support during the night. In such circumstances, sleep-in shifts may convert to waking-night duties, resulting in an increase in the total number of hours worked.

As a result, employees may occasionally be required to work up to 24 hours per week to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the young people in our care.

Any additional hours worked will be paid in accordance with the organisation's pay policies and applicable employment legislation.

Requirements

Experience working with young people, vulnerable individuals, or within a support, care, or residential setting.
Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and respond effectively to challenging situations.
Flexible and reliable approach to work.
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Right to work in the UK.

Qualifications

Experience or interest in mentoring, working with children, or teaching is highly desirable
Strong communication skills with the ability to build trusting relationships
Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to support others' wellbeing
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Organised with good time management skills
Relevant qualifications or training in health and social care or education are advantageous but not essential
Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, Residential Childcare, or a related field.

Pay: £13.00 per hour
