Senior Residential Support Worker (Deputy Ready) – Children’s Residential Home

Salary: per annum (depending on experience)

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Senior Residential Support Worker who not only brings professional experience and compassion but also demonstrates the leadership potential to step confidently into a Deputy Manager position in the near future.

About the Role

As a Senior Residential Support Worker, you’ll play a key role in leading shifts, supporting staff, and ensuring the consistent delivery of high standards of care. You will work closely with the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager, contributing to daily operations, mentoring junior staff, and promoting a culture of safety, respect, and therapeutic care.

This role suits someone ambitious and capable, who is ready to develop into a Deputy Manager position.

Key Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day support and care for children and young people with complex emotional, behavioural, and mental health needs.
Lead shifts effectively, ensuring that care plans, safeguarding, and routines are followed in line with Ofsted standards.
Use PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) approaches to build trusting and secure relationships.
Support children with ASD, ADHD, EBD, Mental Health difficulties, and Challenging Behaviour using trauma-informed and therapeutic care strategies.
De-escalate challenging situations calmly and confidently, using advanced conflict management and de-escalation techniques.
Contribute to and complete individual care plans and risk assessments, ensuring they accurately reflect each young person’s needs, progress, and safety strategies.
Supervise and mentor Support Workers, promoting consistent practice and professional development.
Maintain accurate records, contribute to care planning, and communicate effectively with colleagues, professionals, and families.
Ensure the home remains compliant with all regulatory and safeguarding standards.

Essential Requirements

Minimum of 1 year’s experience working in an Ofsted-registered children’s residential care home.
Experience supporting children with Mental Health needs, EBD, ASD, ADHD, and Challenging Behaviour.
Proficiency in conflict management and de-escalation techniques.
Strong knowledge or training in PACE and trauma-informed practice.
Experience in completing and reviewing individual care plans and risk assessments for children and young people.
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) – or willingness to work towards Level 4/5.
A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is compulsory.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
A valid UK driving licence (preferred, as occasional transport duties may be required).
Flexibility to work a rota, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins.

Desirable

Experience mentoring or supervising other staff members.
Familiarity with Ofsted inspection frameworks and quality standards.
Aspiration to progress into a Deputy Manager or leadership role within the organisation.
