Full job description

This is a rewarding position for someone who both enjoys cooking and working with young children. The suitable applicant should ideally have experience of working with children under the age of 5 years, enjoy cookery and preferably have some catering experience. We require someone who is patient, kind, caring and understanding towards the children as they will also be involved in some of the preparation of meals during the week. The suitable applicant must demonstrate an understanding of health and safety in terms of food allergies, hygiene, safe preparation of food, cross contamination, etc. Ideally, the applicant will have a CIEH Level 2 Awards Food Safety Certificate but training will be provided if required.

The applicant should be able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines, show initiative, work well as part of a team and be interested in the Montessori method of education. A childcare qualification would be advantageous as there would be opportunities for the successful applicant to provide support in other areas such as assisting with art activities, outdoor play or reading stories to the children if interested.

The applicant will also require an enhanced DBS as s/he will be working in the presence of young children.

Our successful applicant will need to be:

- skilled in time management;

- organised;

- patient with children;

- confident;

- act as a positive role model;

- able to create nutritious meals and prepare menus, taking all dietary requirements into consideration;

- able to plan food requirements for the week ahead;

- enjoy cooking and be knowledgeable about healthy eating, food intolerances and allergies;

- a good team worker;

- a good communicator;

- able to assist with ad hoc duties as and when required;

- eligible to work in the UK;

- non-smoker preferred.

Job Type: Part-time
