Job summary
The Trust SHO Doctor in Forensic Psychiatry at Ravenswood House is responsible for delivering high-quality, day-to-day clinical care within a medium secure inpatient setting for adult male patients with complex mental health needs. Working at registrar level under consultant supervision, the post holder will contribute to the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients detained under the Mental Health Act, using a holistic and evidence-based approach to care.
The role involves active participation in ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, ensuring coordinated and patient-centred treatment planning. The post holder will support risk assessment and management, monitor evolving clinical situations, and ensure safe, effective care delivery while maintaining clear and accurate clinical documentation.
In addition to clinical duties, the post holder will engage in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery. Attendance at educational programmes, departmental meetings, and regional teaching opportunities is expected.
The position offers valuable experience within an established multidisciplinary forensic service, supported by structured supervision and professional development opportunities. It provides a strong foundation for developing competencies in forensic psychiatry, while contributing to a service focused on recovery, safety, and delivering compassionate, evidence-based care.

Main duties, tasks & skills required
- Provide Registrar level day to day care for forensic psychiatry, together with ward rounds with the consultants
- Attend forensic psychiatry clinics
- Participation in MDT meetings
- Audit and Clinical Governance
- Undergo regular appraisal throughout the post
- Attend Trust educational and departmental meetings.
- Demonstrate awareness of national and local guidelines relating to specialty (e.g. NICE guidelines) and influence care developments in accordance with these.
- Identify, contribute to or lead on aspects in the development and dissemination of evidence-based guidelines, standards and protocols as required and implement change to improve the quality of patient care.
