Hours:

Monday–Friday, 9:00am–3:00pm all year round.

Salary:

£12.73-£14 per hour, depending on experience.

About Us

Blue Windmill Childcare is under new ownership, with a focus on creating a calm, nurturing environment for children, families, and staff.

Food plays an important role in our day. We have a small vegetable and herb garden, and children are encouraged to take an interest in where food comes from through simple planting and growing activities.

This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys homemade food, fresh ingredients, and helping children develop positive relationships with food from an early age.

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable and organised cook to join our team.

This is a practical, hands-on role preparing meals and snacks for up to 40 babies and young children each day. The successful candidate will take responsibility for running the nursery kitchen independently on a day-to-day basis, with support from management when needed.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and cook healthy, balanced meals and snacks for children aged 0–5
Ensure all food is prepared in line with current food safety and hygiene standards
Work closely with the staff team to ensure adherence to our allergy policy
Maintain a clean, organised kitchen environment
Manage stock, ordering, and kitchen records
Plan and organise the daily kitchen routine independently
Work with management to develop existing menus in line with government guidance on early years nutrition

What We’re Looking For

Experience cooking for large numbers
A good understanding of healthy eating and nutrition
Organised, reliable, and confident working independently
Able to manage a small kitchen calmly and efficiently
Someone who takes pride in preparing food for young children
Friendly and happy to be part of a wider nursery team

Desirable but not essential:

Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above.) Training can be provided for the right candidate with practical experience.

Experience in a nursery, school, or similar setting.

Salary

Up to £14 per hour depending on experience.
