Role Overview

The primary responsibility of the Lifeguard is to ensure students’ safety in and around the swimming pool. Key duties include supervising swimmers, spotting potential hazards, responding promptly to emergencies, and performing CPR or other lifesaving first aid when required.

In addition to pool duties, you are part of the Course Assistant team and contribute to the delivery of free-time, evening, and weekend activities, helping to create a safe, positive, and engaging summer school experience. You may be allocated to a specific department, such as Sports, Language or Operations, giving you the chance to build specialised skills while supporting the wider programme.

In this role you'll gain practical experience working with international children in pool and residential settings, developing teamwork, communication, and leadership skills. You'll build confidence managing safety, emergencies, and student wellbeing, with opportunities to take initiative and responsibility. The role provides transferable lifeguarding skills that strengthen your CV.

Main roles and accountability

Your role ensures only students with swim consent and adequate ability enter the pool, conducting tests if necessary, and enforces all safety/operating procedures including pool covering/uncovering. You respond promptly to emergencies performing life-saving first aid.

You provide pastoral support listening to concerns and collaborating with House Parents for a safe, nurturing environment, maintaining professional boundaries without becoming "friends" and promptly reporting concerns. You support daily routines like wake-ups/bedtimes, assist Events Managers' evening entertainment encouraging participation for fun/inclusive atmospheres, ensure safety during trips/excursions via policies / roll calls / pastoral support / communication, support airport / Eurostar transfers with brief supervised welcomes, supervise mealtimes promoting behaviour/inclusion/well-being / healthy eating, engage during breaks enforcing rules (phone restrictions) / fostering interaction / addressing issues, and collate weekly feedback for happiness monitoring.

Additional Duties

You attend daily staff meetings, follow Staff Handbook guidelines, and carry out other reasonable duties.
