The Quality of Practice Service has responsibility for upholding an overarching culture of learning and continuous practice development for the whole Safeguarding and Childrens Services . They will do this by maintaining and developing the expertise of the workforce, setting practice quality standards and supporting Senior and Service managers to quality assure the effectiveness of their services.

As part of the Quality of Practice Service, the Practice Development Team is responsible to support practice development, driving forward our service practice values and principles to ensure children and families in North Tyneside receive the best service we can give them.

They hold the lead for Signs of Safety, ensuring that all practitioners and supervisors are provided with the knowledge-rich, evidence-informed, skills-based learning to support them using the tools and principles associated with this model of practice. They will develop training and useful resources for practitioners to effectively use with children and families, to support a consistent approach regardless of the team they are working with.

The successful candidate

The Team Manager will be a lead in supporting practitioners across the full Social Care Service to integrate research into their practice in all relevant areas, but particularly domestic abuse, substance misuse and mental ill health. They will work in partnership with other colleagues and external stakeholders to bring in new and updating research, knowledge and resources into the service and disseminating this across the services using innovative and modern means of engaging the workforce.

Under the leadership of the Senior Manager, they will contribute to recruitment and retention of qualified social workers, through contributing to the career and qualification pathway for social workers at every stage of their career, including pre-qualification, early career qualified, advanced practitioners and practice supervisors.

The Team Manager will be the coordinator of our current ASYE programme and will lead on developing our approach to supporting Social workers in their Early Career, in line with national reforms.

The Quality of Practice teams have a lead responsibility in quality assurance and inspection readiness, working in partnership with the Strategy and Transformation Team and the Policy, Intelligence and Research Team

The Team Manager will have line management responsibility for two non-case holding Social Work Advanced Practitioners, who in turn will support the delivery of the objectives of the team.

The right candidate will have:

An excellent understanding of the Signs of Safety Practice Model and its application in local authority statutory children’s services
Demonstrates an up to date knowledge and understanding of the law, government policy, legislative and inspection frameworks and best practice in Children’s Social Care
Demonstrated leadership skills in workforce development and practice improvement.
Experience in supporting practitioners with a variety of qualifications at various stages in their carer to develop and sustain research informed best practice.
Experience in leading and supporting a positive learning culture where good practice thrives. Where practitioners feel valued and have the resources to do their best for the children and families in our borough.
Applied understanding of quality assurance and performance management processes and the ability to produce accurate and timely performance reports
An excellent applied understanding of the integrated children’s system. Excellent presentation and strong report writing skills.
