We are delighted to advertise the opportunity for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) to join our innovate team on Oak Ward. Oak Ward is an older adult mental and health and dementia inpatient ward, based at Redwoods Centre, in Shrewsbury.

As an OTA, you’ll be passionate about enabling adults with Mental Health difficulties and dementia to engage in activities on our in-patient wards, forming part of their recovery.

You will deliver occupational therapy interventions on the ward and in the community under the supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist, supporting people with complex mental health needs and dementia to work toward their Recovery goals through meaningful occupation, physical health, social inclusion, daily living skills, and mental health promotion. The role will also involve assessment of the needs of patients on discharge from hospital, and contributing to multidisciplinary discussions along side the Registered Occupational Therapist.

You will work compassionately within a multidisciplinary team, contribute to risk reviews, promote equality and independence, and follow all Trust policies and procedures at all times.

You will provide formalised support and practical assistance to service users in order for them to regain control over their lives and their own unique recovery process. You will be supporting service users by enabling them to develop their current functional skills and coping strategies, which will require you to adjust your approach depending upon their need and intervention.
You will engage with older adult mental health and dementia service users to promote recovery and reintegration with the aim of assisting service users to gain and maintain independence in the community or other step down settings.
