Lead the transformation of a complex policing estate, shape future infrastructure strategy, and play a pivotal role in delivering a modern, sustainable estate aligned to the future of policing.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated Strategic Director of Estates to lead a multi-skilled Estates and Facilities Management team at Cambridgeshire Constabulary.
This is a key senior leadership role within the organisation, offering the opportunity to influence strategic direction, drive estate transformation, and contribute directly to operational policing outcomes across the county.
The Constabulary’s buildings and estate play a critical role in delivering policing across the County. The Estates and Facilities team have an ambition to transform the Estate to be smaller, better, greener and are now looking for a Strategic Director of Estates to take the lead role in that delivery.
The constabulary employs over 1730 officers, over 950 staff members and 20 PCSO's to cover a resident population of over 900,000. Our vision is to ‘Create a Safer Cambridgeshire’. We pride ourselves in delivering a service with integrity, sensitivity and respect.
It is important to us that we represent our local communities within Cambridgeshire.
Due to the retirement of the post holder, we are seeking a Strategic Director of Estates to continue the transformation of our Estate to meet future policing needs and continue our journey to deliver our Sustainability Strategy to achieve net zero by 2035.
Everyone at Cambridgeshire Constabulary takes personal responsibility to help create an inclusive workplace, where police officers and staff respect one another, feel valued for their differences and can be themselves. We are committed to providing workplace adjustments, wherever needed so everyone feels welcome and can flourish. This role will be key to continued delivery of these values.
The Strategic Director of Estates is a high-impact senior leadership role at the heart of Cambridgeshire Constabulary, reporting directly to the CFO and Director of Resources. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of policing infrastructure by leading the Estates and Facilities team and building strong, effective partnerships across the Constabulary, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, other police forces, partner organisations and the wider emergency services community across Cambridgeshire.
You will work closely with Chief Officers, including the Chief Constable and Chief Officer team, as well as the Police and Crime Commissioner, providing trusted advice and forward-looking recommendations on estates strategy. Representing the function at key Board meetings and governance forums, you will need the credibility, communication skills and influence to inspire confidence, secure support and turn strategic ambition into action.
This is a strategic role with real operational depth. Alongside setting direction, you will lead hands-on delivery across procurement and commercial negotiations in partnership with our collaborated Commercial Services function. From new-build developments and major capital works to sustainability initiatives, planned maintenance and the day-to-day performance of a diverse contractor base, you will drive high-quality outcomes that are compliant, cost-effective and aligned to service needs ensuring excellent value for money across every aspect of the estate.
A central part of the role will be leading the development of a refreshed Estates and Facilities Management Strategy that looks far beyond the immediate horizon and positions the organisation for the future of policing. In a time of significant change, you will bring stakeholders with you, secure buy-in for a long-term vision, and translate that vision into a practical, deliverable programme that modernises the estate in a controlled and sustainable way.
Safety and compliance are fundamental to success in this role. You will take ownership of statutory health and safety obligations across the estate, ensuring testing, inspections and remedial actions are kept fully up to date. With accountability for Estates-related risk assessments, you will play a vital role in safeguarding our people, our buildings and the services they support.
