We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic SHEQ Advisor to join our team. Reporting to the SHEQ Manager, you will play a key role in helping to ensure compliance with legislation, industry standards and company policies.

About the Role
As SHEQ Advisor, you will work alongside operational teams delivering plumbing, heating, electrical and construction works by promoting a strong safety culture, helping ensure safe systems of work are in place and monitoring compliance across projects.
You will be responsible for monitoring compliance, conducting site inspections and audits, supporting incident investigations and helping to maintain our Integrated Management System (IMS) aligned to ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation, review and maintenance of Buston and Maughan’s SHEQ policies, procedures and management systems.
- Promote a positive SHEQ culture across the business.
- Provide practical SHEQ advice and guidance to managers, supervisors and operational teams.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety performance.
- Maintain SHEQ records, registers, actions logs using company systems, ensuring information is accurate, up to date and easy to retrieve.
- Assist in ensuring the company complies with relevant H&S legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act and associated regulations.
- Monitor compliance with industry standards, contractual requirements and best practice.
- Review risk assessments, method statements (RAMS) and safe systems of work and provide feedback where required.
- Carry out regular site audits, inspections and safety reviews across operational projects.
- Support planned Integrated Management System audits in line with ISO standards requirements.
- Identify hazards, risks and areas of non-compliance and help ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Assist with investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses.
- Support the identification of root causes and follow-up of corrective and preventative actions.
- Ensure incidents are reported and recorded in line with legal requirements, including RIDDOR reporting where applicable.
- Identify SHEQ training needs and support the delivery of inductions, toolbox talks and briefings.
- Help ensure employees and subcontractors understand their SHEQ responsibilities.
- Monitor and report on SHEQ performance, including KPIs, trends and audit findings.
- Maintain accurate records relating to audits, inspections, incidents and corrective actions.
- Support SHEQ reporting and management review processes by preparing information and contributing to meetings where required.
What We Are Looking For
Essential:
- NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate or equivalent occupational health and safety qualification
- Membership of IOSH at an appropriate level or a commitment to working towards membership
- Proven experience in a SHEQ, health and safety or compliance-focused role
- Good ICT skills, including confident use of Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams and electronic SHEQ systems.
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and requirements
- Experience carrying out site inspections, audits and incident investigations
- Experience reviewing risk assessments and safe systems of work
- Strong communication, organisation and influencing skills
- Practical understanding of construction, maintenance, repairs, heating, plumbing, electrical or social housing environments.
- Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable:
- ISO Internal Auditor qualification or experience supporting IMS audits
- Experience with ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001
- Experience delivering toolbox talks, briefings or training sessions
- P405 Management of Asbestos in Buildings
- Experience working on social housing, maintenance or construction projects
