Chef/Cook – Yarnton Garden Centre Café

28 Hours per Week | Overtime Available | Daytime Hours Only

Yarnton Garden Centre Café is looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and talented Chef/Cook to become a key member of our kitchen team. The Role

As Chef/Cook, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality food that exceeds customer expectations. You will prepare and present a wide range of dishes while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness and kitchen efficiency.

You will be passionate about fresh ingredients, excellent presentation and ensuring every customer enjoys a memorable dining experience.

Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesFood Preparation & Service

Prepare, cook and present dishes to company standards.
Ensure all meals are produced consistently and efficiently.
Prepare breakfasts, lunches, daily specials, cakes, light bites and seasonal menu items.
Maintain high standards of food quality, taste and presentation.
Ensure customer orders are delivered accurately and promptly.
Assist with menu development and seasonal promotions.
Minimise food waste through effective preparation and portion control.

Kitchen Operations

Organise daily kitchen preparation and service requirements.
Maintain a clean, safe and efficient working environment.
Ensure equipment is used correctly and maintained appropriately.
Monitor stock levels and report shortages promptly.
Assist with stock rotation and storage procedures.
Support deliveries, checking quality and accuracy of goods received.
Ensure all food is stored safely and correctly.

Food Safety & Compliance

Follow all Food Hygiene and Health & Safety regulations.
Adhere to HACCP procedures and company policies.
Maintain excellent kitchen cleanliness standards at all times.
Complete food temperature records and safety documentation accurately.
Ensure allergen information is understood and communicated correctly.
Comply with all legal and environmental requirements.

Teamwork & Customer Focus

Work collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house teams.
Support colleagues during busy service periods.
Maintain a positive, professional and flexible attitude.
Help create a welcoming and enjoyable experience for customers.
Represent the values and reputation of Yarnton Garden Centre professionally at all times.

What We're Looking ForEssential Requirements

Previous experience as a Chef, Cook or Kitchen Team Member.
Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques.
Understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety standards.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
Excellent organisational skills.
Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Reliable, punctual and flexible approach.
Team player with good communication skills.

Desirable

Food Hygiene Certificate.
Experience within a café, garden centre, restaurant or hospitality environment.
Experience preparing fresh, homemade dishes.
Knowledge of allergen management and food safety procedures.
