Residential Support Worker – Children’s Residential Home

Location: Taunton area
Job Type: Full-time / Part-time / Bank
Reports to: Registered Manager

We are looking for caring, reliable and committed Residential Support Workers to join a children’s residential home supporting up to 4 looked-after children.

This is a rewarding role where you will work as part of a team to provide a safe, warm and supportive environment for young people. You will help young people feel secure, build positive routines, engage in education, develop life skills and achieve better outcomes.

The role requires someone who is patient, resilient, professional and able to build positive relationships with young people while maintaining clear boundaries.

Working Hours

The role may be available on the following basis:

Full-time: 10 x 25-hour shifts per month, including sleep-ins
Part-time: 5 x 25-hour shifts per month, including sleep-ins
Bank / Sessional: Zero-hours basis

You must be flexible and able to work shifts, including weekends, bank holidays and sleep-in duties when required.

Key Responsibilities

As a Residential Support Worker, you will:

Provide day-to-day care and support to young people within a children’s residential home.
Help create a safe, warm, supportive and structured environment.
Promote positive childcare practice in line with the aims and values of the home.
Support young people with routines, education, activities, appointments and daily living skills.
Encourage positive relationships between young people, their families and other professionals where appropriate.
Promote and encourage education, personal development and positive behaviour.
Accompany young people on activities, appointments, school runs, home visits and holidays when required.
Support young people with domestic tasks, including cooking, cleaning, shopping and maintaining the home environment.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, health and safety and general household organisation.
Complete accurate records, reports and daily logs, including incident reports, missing reports, weekly reports, cash sheets and medication logs.
Report safeguarding concerns, incidents or matters of concern to management promptly.
Work in line with company policies, procedures, safeguarding requirements and health and safety guidance.
Take part in team meetings, supervision, appraisals and ongoing training.
Act as a positive role model for young people and colleagues.
Respond appropriately to challenging situations and seek support when needed.
Undertake sleep-in duties as required.
Carry out driving duties, including transporting young people to school, activities, appointments and home visits.

Essential Requirements

Full manual UK driving licence.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work shifts, including weekends, bank holidays and sleep-in duties.
Willingness to undertake training.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.

Desirable Experience and Qualifications

Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare.
Understanding of residential childcare.
Experience working in children’s residential care.
Experience in social care, community work or a similar setting.
Understanding of care plans, safeguarding, health and safety and the needs of adolescents.
Knowledge of child-centred practice, routines, boundaries and consistency.

Training

You will be expected to take part in training as required. This may include on-the-job training, in-house training days and working towards relevant childcare qualifications, including Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce Diploma or any qualification required by legislation.
