Community Support Worker

Location: Thanet, Kent

About the Role

As a Community Support Worker at Avondalecare, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals within their own communities to live fulfilling, independent lives. You will work with people who may have mental health conditions, learning disabilities, substance misuse needs, and/or autism spectrum disorders (ASD), some of whom may require support with regulated activities and daily living tasks.

This is a highly rewarding, person-centred role where no two days are the same. You will support individuals to develop life skills, maintain their wellbeing, and achieve personal goals, while also providing practical day-to-day support and assistance where required. You will promote dignity, independence, safety, and social inclusion through structured and person-centred support.

Key Responsibilities

As a Community Support Worker, you will:

Support individuals to access and participate in community activities, hobbies, education, or employment opportunities aligned with their interests and goals.
Assist with daily living tasks such as cooking, shopping, budgeting, and maintaining a safe and comfortable home environment.
Provide emotional support and companionship, building trusting and professional relationships that promote confidence and self-esteem.
Work in partnership with individuals, families, and professionals to implement person-centred care plans and tailored support strategies.
Support individuals to attend appointments, access healthcare services, and manage their overall wellbeing.
Maintain accurate, timely records and contribute to care plan reviews and risk assessments.

Person Specification

We are looking for individuals who are:

Empathetic and compassionate - able to understand and respond to individual needs.
Resilient and adaptable - capable of remaining calm and positive in challenging situations.
Supportive and empowering - committed to enabling individuals to achieve their goals.
Reliable and responsible - able to work independently within the community.
Proactive and positive - motivated to make a genuine difference in people’s lives.

Ideal Candidate Requirements

Previous experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs, or related areas.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends.
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
A commitment to ongoing professional development.

Please note: Successful candidates will be required, upon completion of their probationary period, to undertake and complete an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (fully supported by Avondalecare).

Working Environment

This is a community-based role, with most of your time spent supporting individuals in their own homes and local areas across the Thanet area, and surrounding locations. Flexibility is essential, and you may be required to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and occasionally nights, depending on the needs of the individuals you support.
