Market Force Allowance:£5,000 p/a(Reviewed annually)
Enhancements(Out-of-Hours):£3,632 - £4,015
Sleep-in Shift Payment:£43.12 per shift

This is a challenging but highly rewarding leadership role within a secure children’s home, supporting young people who have experienced significant trauma and may present with complex emotional and behavioural needs.

As a Secure Team Supervisor, you will take a key role in leading shifts, supporting staff, and ensuring young people receive safe, consistent, and high-quality care. You will be instrumental in creating a stable and therapeutic environment that helps young people build trust, resilience, and positive futures.

What the role really involves

Working in a secure setting means:

Supporting young people who may display behaviour that challenges, including aggression, self-harm, or disengagement

Leading staff through emotionally challenging situations, including crisis response and de-escalation
Maintaining safety and security within a highly regulated environment
Making confident decisions under pressure to keep young people and staff safe
Working shifts, including evenings and weekends

This is not an office-based role — you will be visible on shift, leading by example, coordinating care, and directly supporting both staff and young people.

About the role

You will work as a senior practitioner, supporting the Registered Manager and taking responsibility for the day-to-day coordination of care and staff on shift.

Key aspects include:

Team Leadership and Supervision:Providing clear direction, guidance, and support to staff on shift, ensuring safe and effective daily operations
Duty Contact Responsibility:Acting as theduty contact for the home whenrequired,making key operational and safeguarding decisionsand providing leadership oversight in the absence of senior managers
Staff Development:Supporting induction, supervision, and performance development to build a confident and capable workforce
Care Planning and Delivery:Overseeing and implementing individual care, risk, and education plans to meet each young person’s needs
Safeguarding and Crisis Management:Leading responses to incidents and ensuring safeguarding standards are consistently upheld
Admissions and Transitions:Supporting safe admissions, transitions, and discharges in line with procedures
Multi-Agency Working:Collaborating with professionals to ensure coordinated and effective support for young people
Trauma-Informed Practice:Delivering care aligned to Secure Stairs and trauma-informed principles
Recording and Reporting:Maintainingaccuraterecords, reports, and documentation to support safe practice and accountability

You will regularly act as the lead practitioner on shift, ensuring consistency, structure, and high standards of care.

Who we’re looking for

This role will suit someone who is:

Resilient and emotionally intelligent, able to remain calm and lead others in challenging situations
Experienced in working with young people who have experienced trauma and display behaviours that challenge
Confident in leading teams and supporting others to develop their skills and practice
Highly organised and able to make clear, effective decisions under pressure
Committed to safeguarding,high standards, and accountability
Able to build strong, trusting relationships with young people and colleagues

Essential experience and qualifications

Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with young people in a residential care setting
Experience supporting young people with complex needs and behaviours that challenge
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and relevant legislation (e.g. Children Act)
Strong communication, organisational, and report-writing skills

Desirable:

Experience in a supervisory or team leader role
Willingness to undertake further qualifications (Level 4 or above)
