ABOUT PURELY ENERGY
Purely Energy is a B Corp certified business energy broker based in Warrington, helping businesses of all sizes secure smarter energy contracts through transparent, expert-led advice. As a National Living Wage employer and a team that genuinely cares about doing business the right way, we are growing fast and we are looking for people who want to grow with us.
This is an opportunity to join a close-knit, commercially driven team and play a meaningful role in how we operate, protect, and scale the business.
THE ROLE
As our In-House Solicitor, you will be the primary source of legal expertise across the business. This is an advisory and governance-focused role: you will spend most of your time shaping how the business operates from the inside, drafting and maintaining the policies and frameworks that underpin everything we do. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will provide clear, commercially minded advice across commercial, corporate, regulatory, data protection, and employment law matters.
You will be trusted to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality guidance at pace. No two days will be identical, and you will have genuine scope to build the legal function in your own image.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Policy and Governance
- Draft, review, and maintain the full suite of company policies, procedures, and internal frameworks, ensuring they are current, compliant, and fit for purpose.
- Develop and embed compliance strategies across the business, working with department heads to build a culture of legal and ethical integrity.
- Advise on data protection obligations under UK GDPR, act as the business's primary point of contact on data protection matters, and maintain associated policies and records.
Commercial and Contract Work
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts including client agreements, vendor contracts, framework agreements, and partnership arrangements.
- Provide pragmatic legal advice to all departments on commercial, corporate, regulatory, and employment law matters, translating complex issues into clear, actionable guidance.
- Monitor regulatory developments in the energy sector and commercial law, proactively advising the business to minimise legal risk.
Day-to-Day Legal Support
- Conduct document reviews to identify risks and ensure compliance with legal requirements, providing clear recommendations to stakeholders.
- Support employment matters including contract templates, policy updates, and ad hoc HR-related legal queries.
- Assist with dispute resolution matters as required, liaising with external counsel where specialist expertise is needed; court attendance is not anticipated as a regular feature of the role.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Qualified solicitor admitted by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), with 1 to 3 years' post-qualification experience.
- Proven experience in an in-house legal role or small team environment, with exposure to a broad range of practice areas.
- Demonstrable experience drafting and maintaining company policies, compliance frameworks, or governance documentation.
- Solid understanding of UK GDPR and data protection obligations in a commercial context.
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills across a range of commercial contracts.
- Ability to translate complex legal matters into clear, practical advice that supports commercial objectives.
- Confident working independently with senior stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities without sacrificing quality.
- High attention to detail and commitment to professional and ethical standards.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Salary of up to £65,000, dependent on experience.
- Performance-based annual bonus scheme.
- Office based in Warrington; hybrid working may be considered for the right candidate.
- 20 days annual leave plus 8 UK bank holidays.
- Your birthday off, every year.
- Annual performance bonuses.
- Regular team rewards including meals, trips, and prizes.
- B Corp certified workplace with a genuine commitment to doing business responsibly.
- National Living Wage employer.
- A supportive, collaborative team environment with real scope for growth.
