Full job description

Description of Role

Our client is a 25‑year‑old man living at home with his family and pet dog. He has cerebral palsy (dystonic/athetoid quadriplegia) and is a full‑time wheelchair user. He is extremely intelligent, sociable, and enjoys a wide range of activities including Lego, puzzles, problem‑solving tasks, socialising, and spending time in the community.

He communicates effectively with facial expressions (yes/no) and thrives with people who are patient, engaging, and willing to get to know him as an individual. He values companionship, humour, and meaningful interaction.

The role is centred around enabling him to live a full, active, and enjoyable life, while supporting his independence, wellbeing, and daily routines.

The Support Worker will provide high‑quality, person‑centred support to the client across all aspects of daily living, community participation, medication administration and wellbeing. This includes practical assistance, personal care, moving and hadnling, emotional support, and proactive involvement in activities that promote independence, engagement, and quality of life.

The role involves working within the client’s home environment, supporting him in the community, and collaborating with his family and wider support network.

We are looking for someone who is compassionate, patient, and genuinely committed to supporting a young adult with complex physical needs. You should be confident working independently within a family home, able to build a warm and respectful relationship with the client, and comfortable adapting your communication style to suit his needs. A positive, engaging approach is essential, as the role involves participating in activities, encouraging independence, and supporting the client to express preferences and make choices.

You will need to be reliable, proactive, and physically capable of assisting with moving and handling tasks. Strong communication skills, a calm manner, and a willingness to learn are key. Previous experience in brain injury care or complex care support is essential. The right values, attitude, and commitment to high‑quality support are what matter most. A full driving licence and confidence behind the wheel of a wheelchair accessible vehicle are required.

Working hours:

10 hours per week, specific days/hours can be flexible but will be comprised of weekdays.

Rates of pay:

£17.00 per hour weekday

£18.00 per hour weekend

£34.00 per hour bank holiday

All posts are subject to an Enhanced DBS Disclosure with Adult and Child Workforce Barring. Full training will be provided.
