Full job description

Poundbury Doctors Surgery is a well-established training practice serving the Poundbury community with a supportive multidisciplinary team including GPs, nurses, administrative staff and PCN staff. We are looking for an experienced GP Assistant to join our team. Working 25 hours per week, starting salary £14 per hour depending on experience. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining our high standard of patient care and supporting our doctors with clinical administrative work and workflow management.

This is a role that requires excellent communication, organisation, and the ability to complete work to a high standard within deadlines.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

· Process referrals, letters, and medical reports.

· Manage incoming hospital correspondence via the clinical workflow system and update patient records accordingly.

· Handle test results and ensure accurate clinical coding within the patient record.

· Support GPs with insurance forms, medical summaries, and reports.

· Communicate test results to patients under GP instruction.

· Assist with patient follow-ups, including phone calls and appointment reminders.

· Maintain accurate electronic health records and ensure high standards of documentation.

Working Hours

This role is based on site at the surgery. Working hours will be scheduled across our opening hours of 08:00 – 18:30.

Essential Skills

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Strong organisational and multitasking abilities.

· Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy environment.

· Understanding of patient confidentiality and data protection.

· Working knowledge of medical terminology.

Desirable Skills

Previous experience in a healthcare or GP practice setting.
Understanding of primary care workflows.
Previous GP Assistant training and experience.
