Full job description

Job Introduction

East Durham College is seeking a passionate and dedicated English Lecturer to deliver high-quality teaching across GCSE and Functional Skills programmes (up to Level 2). This is a fantastic opportunity to support learners in developing essential language skills that will help them progress in education, employment, and life.

Your Role Will Include:

Delivering scheduled teaching and preparing engaging learning materials.
Developing and evaluating English courses and assessments.
Monitoring learner attendance and progress.
Supporting course review, moderation, and quality improvement.
Providing advice and guidance to students.
Participating in college events, team meetings, and CPD.
Promoting safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of teaching.

What We’re Looking For:

Essential Criteria:

A recognised teaching qualification.
GCSE-level education (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject.
Degree in a relevant subject.
Experience teaching English across a range of levels.
Experience working with diverse learners (14–19+), including those with SEND.
Strong understanding of the OFSTED framework for Further Education.
Knowledge of Eduqas GCSE and Pearson Functional Skills specifications.
Ability to motivate students and guide substantial progress.
Proficiency with educational software and data analysis.
Excellent communication, organisation, and teamwork skills.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting EDI.
Full UK Driving Licence and/or access to a vehicle.

Desirable Criteria:

Experience arranging work experience for learners.
Familiarity with awarding body policies and procedures.
Practice that celebrates Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
