Health & Wellbeing Manager

Reports to: Head of Safeguarding
Salary: £35,000 - £38,000
Contract: Full-time, fixed term (3 years)
Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: Northampton Saints Foundation (with travel across partner locations as required)

BACKGROUND

Northampton Saints Rugby Football Club was formed in 1880, when Reverend Samuel Wathen Wigg identified rugby as a way to channel the energies of some of the county’s more troubled youngsters. More than 140 years on, Northampton Saints Foundation continues his legacy, using the power of sport and the values of rugby to INSPIRE, SUPPORT and EDUCATE thousands of people each year. Our education and social inclusion programmes inspire the current generation to learn, develop new skills, increase confidence and where appropriate return to education, training or employment.

ROLE

To lead and manage the strategic and operational delivery of Northampton Saints Foundation’s health and wellbeing provision, ensuring the highest standards of practice and impact across programmes for young people, adult participants, and staff. This role combines leadership of wellbeing strategy with direct delivery of specialist interventions when required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership & Oversight

Develop and implement a Health & Wellbeing Strategy aligned to the Foundation’s mission and values.
Provide strategic oversight of all wellbeing provision, ensuring a joined-up approach for young people, adult attendees, and staff.
Establish and maintain clear KPIs and outcome measures to demonstrate impact to funders, trustees, and partners.
Champion a trauma-informed, inclusive and safeguarding culture across the organisation.

Programme Development & Delivery

Design, develop and evaluate wellbeing programmes tailored to diverse participant needs (young people, adults, staff) and in alignment with local and national priorities.
Lead the delivery of Health and Wellbeing programmes, ensuring they meet targets, align with budgets, and operate sustainably while supporting future growth.
Deliver 1:1 session’s where a counsellor’s input is necessary and provide therapeutic guidance to staff where appropriate.
Lead on the creation of group interventions, workshops, andcampaigns across all foundation programmes (including support to the Marcomms team for social media) promoting mental health and wellbeing.
Ensure programmes reflect current best practice and evidence-based approaches.
Establish robust social value reporting and quality assurance processes to monitor performance, evaluate outcomes, and ensure continuous improvement.

Staff Wellbeing & Organisational Culture

Collaborate with HR on staff wellbeing offer, including training, resources, and activities that support mental health at work.
Act as a point of contact for staff seeking advice or signposting on wellbeing issues.
Support the Senior Leadership Team to integrate wellbeing into policies, safeguarding practice, and organisational development.

Funding, Partnerships & Sustainability

Proactively identify and work with the Fundraising team to pursue funding opportunities, grants, andpartnerships to support and expand wellbeing provision.
Develop and maintain relationships with external agencies, commissioners, and stakeholders to enhance provision and secure sustainability.
Prepare reports, proposals and presentations for internal and external audiences to demonstrate outcomes and secure investment.

Safeguarding & Compliance

Work collaboratively with DSL to ensure all wellbeing services adhere to safeguarding policies, ethical standards and professional codes of conduct.
Maintain accurate and secure record-keeping for interventions and programmes, in line with GDPR.
Contribute to risk assessments and incident reviews as required.

Leadership & Line Management

In line with departmental opportunities for growth, develop a strategy to recruit and mentor a team, creating a culture of collaboration, innovation and excellence.
Provide regular supervision, support and training opportunities to staff/volunteers delivering wellbeing interventions.
Contribute to the wider Senior Leadership Team and organisational decision-making.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

· Recognised qualification in Counselling, Psychotherapy, Mental Health, Social Work or related field (Essential)

· Educated to GCSE Grade 4 or equivalent including Maths and English

· NVQ Level 3 or equivalent relevant experience working with young people, adults, families or vulnerable groups

· Safeguarding training appropriate to the role, with designated safeguarding lead certification desirable

· Experience managing wellbeing or mental health services/ programmes.

· Specialist training in trauma-informed or systemic approaches

· Experience in a charity or education setting

· Fundraising and bid writing experience (desirable)

· Experience working with diverse and vulnerable groups
