Role summary
As an Intervention Worker, you will deliver intensive, sustained support to children and young people with complex needs, using holistic assessment and evidence-based interventions to reduce risk and prevent offending. Working closely with families, carers and multi-agency partners to promote engagement and access to education, training and employment. You will also produce clear assessments and maintain high-quality records to inform Youth Justice decision-making.
What you’ll do - key responsibilities
Undertake holistic assessments, including risk, vulnerability and specialist needs, to ensure effective supervision of young people.
Maintain accurate records and produce clear reports, including court and panel presentations where required.
Provide high-quality advice on education, training, employment and citizenship, supporting young people to access opportunities.
Continuously develop practice through research, training and collaboration with professionals to improve service delivery.
Develop specialist expertise where required (e.g. restorative justice, CSE, DVA, victims or parenting work).
Deliver interventions in line with national standards and best practice, monitoring and evaluating impact.
Support engagement in diversionary, developmental and residential opportunities, including one-to-one and group work.
Plan and deliver targeted intervention programmes for young people in the youth justice system.
Work closely with parents, carers and multi-agency partners including social care, police, education and health.
What we’re looking for – knowledge, experience & skills
Essential
Clear understanding of the factors leading children and young people to become involved in offending behaviour; Working knowledge of youth criminal justice legislation
Ability to communicate effectively with children, young people, families/carers and build appropriate relationships; Ability to build strong, respectful working relationships with children, families and professionals; Ability to remain professional when challenged
Ability to produce clear, concise and accurate assessments of risk and need; Proven ability to undertake holistic assessments and develop outcome-focused intervention plans reflecting young people and family views; Effective communication, problem-solving and assessment skills
Experience developing creative support and intervention packages to reduce offending and risk of harm; Ability to work within performance management and quality assurance frameworks; Experience of working with young people on a one-to-one and group work basis; Experience working in a relevant field (e.g. youth work, probation, education, health or criminal justice)
Ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines, motivate others and work effectively as part of a team; Reliability, good timekeeping, flexibility and tenacity; Ability to maintain accurate and timely records
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children; Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion; Ability to promote change, act as a role model and demonstrate duty of care
Minimum 5 GCSEs (grades A–C / level 4–7 or equivalent), including English and Maths; Relevant vocational qualification (minimum Level 3 NVQ or equivalent) with evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable
Ability to develop and utilise community links and networks
Holding or working towards a Level 4 NVQ; Willingness to engage in ongoing training, development and supervision
Strong IT and keyboard skills to support direct work
Experience of conducting PACE interviews and appearing as a witness in Magistrates’ or Family Courts
Experience of conducting quality assurance audits and contributing to service improvement initiatives
Experience of contributing to multi-agency safeguarding forums or panels
Experience of supporting and advising others on safeguarding complaints and escalation processes

Additional Information
Fixed Term until 31/03/2029. 37 Hours based in Taunton.
Flexible working available, using a hybrid model – working from home and your contracted work base. Your work base is open to discussion.
28 day’s annual leave (additional to bank holidays)
This role requires access to a vehicle with business insurance as some of your time will be spent in the community completing direct interventions with children, young people and families.
