Trainee 1:1 School Tutor – Paid Training & Structured Career Pathway

Location: Partner Schools (In-Person) + Optional Remote Delivery
Hours: 5–20 hours per week initially (school-day hours)
Contract Type: Part-Time – Development & Progression Pathway
Training Pay: Paid hourly for structured training sessions
Progression Pay: £20–£30 per hour (upon successful assessment)

Tutorium is recruiting aspiring 1:1 Tutors to deliver targeted academic support within partner schools.

You will work directly with pupils during the school day, providing structured one-to-one tuition designed to:

Close learning gaps
Build academic confidence
Improve measurable outcomes
Support long-term learner progress

This is a paid, school-based tutoring position with structured training, mentoring, and clear progression into higher-paid tutoring work.

Structured Development & Progression Pathway

This role begins as a paid trainee development programme.

Progression into full paid tutoring delivery is competitive and based on:

Teaching aptitude
Professional conduct
Subject knowledge
Safeguarding clearance
Performance during training

Paid tutoring work is not guaranteed at the point of application but is offered following successful completion of assessment and safeguarding processes.

Phase 1: Paid Trainee Development Period

During the trainee stage, you will:

Attend 1–2 hours of paid structured training per week
Learn curriculum delivery and structured lesson planning
Develop school-based and 1:1 teaching strategies
Receive mentoring and professional feedback
Complete safeguarding and DBS clearance processes

This stage prepares candidates to meet professional tutoring standards required for school-based delivery.

Phase 2: 1:1 School-Based Tutor (Subject to Assessment)

Following successful completion of training and safeguarding clearance, selected trainees will deliver structured 1:1 tuition within partner schools.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver structured 1:1 tuition sessions during the school day
Support pupils in Maths, English, Science, Business, or Computing
Adapt explanations to suit individual learning needs
Track pupil progress and provide feedback
Represent Tutorium professionally within partner schools
Maintain safeguarding and professional standards at all times

Pay & Progression

Hourly Rate: £20–£30 per hour (based on performance and subject demand)
Hours increase as school demand grows.

Tutors may also have opportunities to:

Deliver small group sessions
Teach online in addition to school delivery
Increase weekly hours as placements expand

Optional University-Linked Study Pathway

Trainees wishing to strengthen subject expertise and long-term career progression may choose to enrol onto a relevant higher education programme (subject to eligibility).

Enrolment is optional and discussed individually
Funding routes may be available depending on circumstances
Student finance approval is independent of Tutorium
