This job is not for all. Don't go into this job if that's all you want from it. Expect to put your gloves on and get down to some serious toilet issues. If you don't like bodily functions and smells. Why are you applying for care roles? You have to be aware of your surroundings and ask loads of questions about the kids you will work with. There are good shifts and bad shifts it is the nature of the job. The children are all at the school for the reason they are difficult and unpredictable. Don't get too confident too soon,  try to take advice from experienced members of staff it is not ment to be criticism even though sometimes it feels like it. Everything takes time and trust is a gradual think you can only build over time. Both with kids and your team mates. If you want overtime you can have it. Work /family balance is what you make of it. If you don't want to stay over simply so no. If you speak up you eventually will be heard. Don't expect credit because clinical team take that. Don't go into this if you want rapid advancement there is definitely a glass ceiling. No laundry to do, minimal cleaning to do. If it needs cleaning, do it don't let it dry. If you use it wash it up. Small amount of cooking has the place has laundry, cleaning staff and cooks across the site. This job is not suited to timid people or anybody who fancies their abilities are outstanding on arrival and worth advancement to upper management within months no matter what your paper qualifications.  Do come to work to put the kids first. Do come to work with an open mind. Don't just come and sit on your bum, flapping your lips to collect a wage. It's better for all to be practical not  fantasist. You see your team and team leaders every day they will have your back. Upper management and clinic/medical no so much. They take the money home but expect the support workers to read the kids minds then talk down to lessee qualified staff. They need to come from behind their desks and actually come see the kids and stay and do more than a few minutes with them. Like I said if your timid don't bother applying because you would put everyone in danger. Don't expect everyone else to do your job for you the grace period is short. Good sense of humour is an advantage but patience and tolerance is vital. Don't be shocked to get slapped, bite or your hair pulled but these kids are here for a reason. Learn from what you experience and what you see. There is training eventually. If you don't understand or know speak up and ask what to do and when. Don't panic, flinch or flap then you will be OK. Some good people here. Some rough looking diamonds. Don't let appearances fool you or the ones who crow about how good they are.. Take your time make your own judgement and have a laugh with kids. (NOT AT THEM, STAFF ARE LOYAL TO THEIR KIDS AND YOU MIGHT COME OFF WITH A TONGUE LASHING) yes you can have fun and build good work relationships. Don't eat the kids food, do bring your own. Expect the kids to sometimes nick yours out of your hands not because they don't get fed but because they are kids who want what you have. The kids get plenty to eat cupboards are kept stocked with healthier foods and they follow a meal plan that is health based, planned and plentiful.

After spending 10 years with my previous company, making the decision to move on was not easy. It came at a time where I had only recently received my kidney transplant, just 6 months prior, so stepping into a new environment brought a level of uncertainty both personally and professionally. However, from the moment I started, I felt supported.

My manager and the wider organisation have consistently shown genuine care, not just in terms of my role, but for me as a person. That support has been especially important during times where my mental health has needed attention, and I have always felt listened to, understood, and supported without judgement. That kind of environment makes a real difference.

The role itself is structured, fast-paced, and centred around delivering safe, high-quality, person-centred care. There is a strong emphasis on accountability, governance, and ensuring that documentation reflects the reality of what is being delivered. This has helped me grow in confidence and understanding, particularly around risk and quality standards.

What stands out the most to me is that my potential has been recognised. I have been given opportunities to develop and progress, opportunities I had been asking for in my previous role but never received. That belief and trust from management has pushed me to aim higher and continue improving.

The job comes with its challenges, particularly balancing operational pressures with maintaining high standards of documentation and compliance, but the team around me plays a big part in making that manageable. There is a shared focus on doing things properly and achieving the best outcomes for the people we support.
The most rewarding part of the role is seeing the positive impact we have and knowing that the work we do genuinely matters.

Now, 4 years post-transplant and 4 years with the company, I can confidently say this was one of the best decisions I have made. I feel valued, supported, and motivated, and I’m genuinely looking forward to what the future holds.

Job satisfaction is good,once you get to know the individuals it’s a very rewarding experience.Hesley is very much a tick box organisation,often the tasks or activities feel pointless and not very stimulating.The management have their close circle of staff that don’t appear to have to follow the same company policies that should apply to all,a bullying culture is apparent ,if the circle or clique doesn’t approve of how you work or your opinions in general you will know about it,you will be moved area or forced to work in a unit you feel really uncomfortable in until you leave.Things like overtime isn’t managed properly so the close circle generally get all of or always the first look at what extra shifts they want,people on a zero hour contract(bank staff)can work as many shifts as they like but if you are contracted you have a cap on what hours you do and will get a ban if they say you have done to much.some staff get away with coming in late and leaving early(the circle)choosing where they work,core teams are non existent which can cause more incidents and create a lot of anxiety for staff,moving across site can be quite nerve wracking as you don’t know the individuals,not enough support is given when this happens and it’s usually the same people forced to move,staff turnover is huge mainly due to the lack of respect shown by management and some team leaders who think they are management.Job roles are usually offered to whoever is friendly with the management,although anyone can apply it’s clear the management know who is getting the job,another tick box system.
The experience has been great,it’s helped me get a job away from the company,wear a hard hat if applying here,you are just a number

Everyday is full of excitement,laughter and great support for both people we support and staff.It takes advocating for or against concerns and improvements possible that the management will assist to get things working.Its a full team with OTs,SLT,TLs and Registered managers on site.
I have learned what team work means and high and regular quality of training is provided.I learned PBS approach to support work and a well defined person centered care,equality and diversity and all departments are easly reachable.Styles of management are quite diverse of which some are more charecter/individually biased compared to company policies and cultures.Improvement is always realised when complaints are raised..I feel valued and listened to even frim highest management.The style of conflict management is helping to iron out issues and grievances.Different strengths and past experiences are making and complimenting each other to make a great team.A bit of some unconscious bias may need to be addressed resulting from cultural diversities. 
The hardest part of the job is that one particular day when those challenging behaviours come to play which is the reason for support we provide.Thanks to plenty trainings and support from management.That time when positive behaviours are at play and more activities are contactable.I support people of different needs and interests, some of which resonate with my hobbies and experiences.I get opportunities to be exposed to all sorts of activities in the community and beyond.

A typical day at work ideally consists of arriving, taking a handover of information from the previous team and then going on to support the person you have spent time building rapport with. 

Unfortunately, the company has zero sense of stability when it comes to staffing, with individuals fixated on a regular routine being given staff they’ve never met before in their lives because it makes the lives of the management team just a little bit easier.

If you do become involved in an incident and sustain an injury that prevents you from attending work, good luck trying to get paid for it as the management team will extend their full sympathies whilst nickel and diming you out of your earnings.

The general managers and managers in general seemingly have zero sense of inclusivity as despite working in a sector with a focus on disabilities, they’d just as soon tell you that you’re not capable of working than accommodate your needs.

The needs of the individuals have taken a back seat since the company’s acquisition by a large investment firm, leading to both staff and the individuals being treated worse in the name of making more money.

I worked at Low Laithes for 11 years. There was an awesome vibe of support from your fellow colleagues and management especially in times when crisis situations happened. Very good training with full pay. I have a disability and was supported via extra training and time to write notes. Do not go into this job if you are the kind of person who is not energetic and enthusiastic about care as individuals with autism will sense that and you will be a hinderance to the team you need to work and put that effort in. Managers extremelly supportive. I’ve recently applied to go back after leaving after having my third baby 😨 But am withdrawing my application as I’ve managed to progress into a support role in a prison. This kind of work can prepare you for progression  if you do your job properly keep your records hand any important information over after your shift making sure monies and medications are signed journals filled and care plans filled in cleaning done etc. you will learn skills that will stay with you for life. I appreciate my 11 years at Hesley it has been my longest job and I thank the management team at Low Laithes for the glowing reference that they provided me with. I will consider applying for management position in the future once I’ve had a few more work experiences as you do need to be assertive with people in general if you want to progress to management here. I did apply while I was there but didn’t get it for that reason. See you soon Hesley Group miss you. 

I worked at low laithes2019, the Training is excellent.
The first day I started on shift I wasn't given the right p.p.e ( radio) which is your lifeline asked the staff but they wasn't much help. If you was to speak to Management they weren't much help either. Once you was put on shift you would shadow for two weeks but was put on shift just after four days to work on my own. The staff on your unit didn't really support you which was stressful. After been in an incident Management never bothered to check if you were ok, was more bothered about paper work been filled out. Low Laithes is a very negative place to work, which is not good for people's mental health. Its supposed to be a person centred approach but it's not. Alot more could be put in place to support staff and enhance the life of the service users.
The Vocational team are useless and do very little, there is no team work. The Manager also does very little to motivate the team. There is no confidentiality as care Managers sit in an office and talk about everyone, even about peoples personal problems and wellbeing they have confided in to their unit Managers.The General Manager really needs to look deeply into the failings of his own care Managers and Team Leaders then good staff might stay. The shifts patterns don't really give you a balanced home life either. I left as I couldn't take the negative environment any longer.



I absolutely love going to work for this Company.  I work in a beautiful building set in stunning grounds and surrounding countryside.  The staff are all committed to their roles.  Not matter what their role is in the Company they are all extremely hardworking, friendly and supportive. I am in an Admin role, and I am fortunate to have the opportunity to chat with staff who work with the Individuals we support. These staff in my eyes do a fantastic job.  They truly care for the Individuals.  They are a very special kind of people.  They love their jobs and many of them have worked for the company for many years. From an Admin prospective, my job is varied every day.  I'm given the autonomy to perform my tasks and organise my workload.  The support from Management is fantastic.  Regular supervisions (1:1) are undertaken throughout the year, giving staff the opportunity for a regular catch up, ask questions and get feedback on their performance.  Managers are regularly available, throughout the week if needed.  The Company is very heavily invested in providing comprehensive training for the whole workforce.  High quality training, whether it's in-house or an outside company delivering training, is provided throughout the year and is constantly updated to fit the needs of the Individuals, the staff, the Company and especially now in the current climate. 
I would definitely highly recommend working for this company.


I have been with Hesley Village now for 4.5years and have loved every minute. For a start, the actual village from day one has always astounded me by how beautiful it is. The on-site facilities and opportunities for the individuals that live there is astounding. Everything from bingo nights, discos, football, dance, karaoke. Believe me- the list goes on!! 
•You are greatly supported by managers and other staff members and the chances to progress within the company are always available, I have completed my NVQ level 2 and I am currently completing my NVQ level 3 in health and social care. 
•I have left for maternity leave and came back once my 9 months was over, which I was so nervous about incase my new shift pattern couldn’t be accepted but management could not of been more helpful and accommodating of my new shifts and nothing was too much trouble.
•All in all, I have had a brilliant 4 years with this company and as long as your a positive, upbeat person with the best intentions you will have the best and easiest time at Hesley :) 
There arnt many jobs that you get to go out for Toby carvery breakfast, then dunkin’ donuts for pudding and a trip to the coast all in a single shift.. that was my shift today. I got to leave work knowing that I had made a difference to someone else’s day, and there is nothing more rewarding than that. I love coming to work and love the job that I do.
