Full job description

Job Overview

We are looking for a compassionate and resilient Housing Support Officer to join the team at Amicus Trust. This is a challenging yet highly rewarding frontline role, supporting single homeless people from initial application through to resettlement. You will play a vital part in delivering our mission to provide safe accommodation while equipping individuals with the skills, confidence and knowledge needed for sustainable independent living. The role requires a calm, non-judgemental approach, strong professional boundaries, and the ability to build trusting relationships with vulnerable adults.

About us

Amicus Trust are here for individuals between the ages of 18 – 65 who are rough sleeping, considered homeless or at risk of homelessness. Individuals may or may not have a range of complex needs including mental health issues, ex-offending, alcohol dependency or substance misuse. We provide supported housing alongside mental health support, structured supporting meetings and life-skills development.

What we offer:

Salary; £26,677.16 per annum.
Hours; full-time 37, per week Monday to Friday, plus on-call duties
Holiday; 25 days plus 8 bank holidays

What you will do in the role of Housing Support Officer:

Assess and interview potential service users, identifying needs, risks and suitability for accommodation.
Provide ongoing one-to-one support through weekly key work sessions and personalised support planning.
Safeguard vulnerable adults and ensure accommodation is safe, secure and well managed.
Support service users with housing and benefit applications, including resolving housing benefit issues.
Work in partnership with external agencies and make referrals to specialist services, including mental health support.
Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and ensure all supported housing documentation is up to date.

What you will need:

Experience working with vulnerable people, including those experiencing homelessness or complex needs.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to build professional relationships while maintaining boundaries.
Ability to manage a caseload, prioritise workload and work effectively under pressure.
Good written skills and IT competence for accurate record keeping and report writing.
A calm, non-judgemental approach with a strong understanding of safeguarding and equality.
A full driving licence (maximum 3 penalty points) and access to a vehicle, with flexibility to undertake on-call duties.

Work schedule: Rotating shifts of 8am to 4pm and 10am to 6pm. Participation in an on-call rota is required.

Location: This role is based at our Wellco project covering a number of properties in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire

Head Office: Our head office is 104 Midland Road, Bedford MK40 1QE. This role requires daily travel.
