Role Summary

We are looking for a Bar and Events Assistant to join the team at The Pavilion. In this role, you will support the delivery of a wide range of events and bar services, helping to create a welcoming, professional, and enjoyable experience for students, staff, and external customers.

You will play a key part in ensuring all spaces are prepared and maintained to a high standard, while delivering excellent customer service at all times. The role involves working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, supporting bar operations, event set-ups, and maintaining high standards of safety, cleanliness, and professionalism.

This is a varied, hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, thrives under pressure, and takes pride in delivering great service.

PLEASE NOTE: This role requires full flexibility across weekdays, weekends, evenings and late nights.

Key responsibilities

Deliver excellent customer service to students, staff, and external customers
Prepare and serve drinks in line with licensing regulations
Operate the till, take orders, and process payments accurately
Restock the bar and maintain stock levels during service
Collect glassware and carry out cleaning duties throughout shifts
Assist with event set-up, room layouts, and breakdowns
Support the delivery of internal and external sports and events
Work effectively as part of a team in a busy, fast-paced environment
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety at all times
Carry out manual handling tasks as required
Undertake any duties delegated by the Bar Supervisor

Essential requirements

The post holder must be 18 years of age or over
Experience of bar work and events
The post holder must be flexible to work Monday to Sunday, including daytime, evening and late-night shifts.

Desirable requirements:

Basic knowledge of licensing laws
Experience working large scale events

Where an appointment is made to a transitional pay point before 01 August 2026, salary will automatically move to the relevant substantive pay point within the grade from 01 August 2026.
