About the role

Location: Your contractual base will be Wellingborough, Northampton, and you will be required to attend the office a minimum of one day per week, with travel to other office locations as required.

At Balfour Beatty, we deliver the infrastructure that supports communities across the UK. We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team and support the successful delivery of our projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Quantity Surveying graduate or someone in the final stages of their degree looking to develop their career within a leading infrastructure business. You'll work alongside experienced commercial professionals, gaining hands-on experience across cost management, procurement, commercial administration and project delivery.

What you'll be doing

Supporting the commercial team in managing project costs and maximising value.
Measuring, recording and valuing completed works in accordance with company procedures.
Assisting with the preparation of cost reconciliation statements and commercial reporting.
Gathering and analysing construction cost data.
Supporting procurement activities, including the preparation and collation of procurement documentation.
Assisting with subcontractor measurement, valuations and agreements.
Supporting weekly and monthly works programmes.
Using company systems to manage project and commercial information.
Maintaining accurate records and project documentation.
Working closely with operational and commercial teams to support successful project delivery.

Who we're looking for

Essential

Degree in Quantity Surveying.
Strong numerical and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
A proactive and enthusiastic approach to learning and development.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Full UK driving licence
Ability to travel to different offices.

Desirable

Previous construction, infrastructure or engineering industry experience.
Understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Quantity Surveyor.
Industry placement, internship or relevant work experience.
Working towards professional membership with RICS, CIOB or ICES.
Knowledge of commercial management and procurement processes.
