About the Job

An exciting opportunity has become available at Wybone for a Purchasing Assistant to join our Supply Chain team.

This is a varied and hands on role that will suit a highly organised and proactive individual with experience in purchasing, stock control, stores management and supply chain operations. Working closely alongside the Purchasing & Stores Manager, you support the daily purchasing activity, helping to ensure the timely procurement of materials, effective supplier management and the efficient operation of the Stores function.

The successful candidate will be responsible for purchasing activities, inventory management, supplier performance monitoring and maintaining accurate records, while also identifying opportunities for process improvements and cost savings.

The role will include:

Support the Purchasing & Stores Manager in all purchasing activities, including sourcing, supplier selection, quotation analysis, purchase order processing and stock replenishment to ensure continuity of supply.
Identify, evaluate and develop new and existing suppliers to improve quality, cost, lead times and service levels, supporting continuous improvement across the supply chain.
Build and maintain effective supplier relationships, monitoring performance, resolving supply issues and contributing to supplier review and improvement initiatives.
Research alternative products, materials and supply sources, making recommendations that improve quality and reduce cost.
Monitor inventory levels and purchasing requirements, ensuring stock is maintained in line with production demands while minimising excess inventory.
Support cost reduction initiatives through supplier negotiations, value engineering opportunities and continuous review of purchasing practices.
Monitor purchasing KPIs, analyse supplier performance and prepare reports to support informed purchasing decisions.
Maintain accurate purchasing and inventory records, including supplier information, pricing, contracts and stock data.
Coordinate the receipt, inspection and booking in of goods, ensuring deliveries meet quality and specification requirements and resolving any discrepancies promptly.
Support the efficient operation of the Stores function by ensuring stock is received, stored, controlled and issued accurately, maintaining high standards of organisation and stock integrity.
Carry out regular stock checks and assist with company stocktakes, investigating discrepancies and implementing corrective actions to improve stock accuracy.
Monitor stock usage and rotation, identifying slow-moving or obsolete inventory and supporting initiatives to reduce waste and optimise stock levels.
Work closely with Production, Planning, Stores and Logistics colleagues to ensure material availability meets operational requirements and customer delivery commitments.
Manage the PPE purchasing process, maintaining appropriate stock levels, coordinating with suppliers and ensuring compliance with company Health & Safety requirements.

About You

Previous experience in a purchasing, inventory, or supply chain role.
Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Experience of stock control, inventory management, and purchasing processes.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Strong communication and ability to build and maintain positive relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Good IT skills and experience using Sage 200 and Microsoft Office.
A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
Understanding of supplier management and supply chain processes.
Forklift Truck licence would be advantageous but is not essential.
Highly motivated, reliable, and capable of working independently as well as part of a team.
