Full job description

Staff Welfare and HR Support Officer

Wemyss Lodge is seeking a compassionate, organised and approachable Staff Welfare and HR Support Officer.

This is primarily a staff welfare role with an element of HR administration. You will be visible throughout the home, building relationships with employees and ensuring they feel welcomed, heard and supported.

Salary: Expected to be £15-16 per hour, dependent on experience
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Location: Wemyss Lodge, Swindon
Job type: Full-time, Permanent

About Us

Wemyss Lodge is a well-established care home providing residential and nursing care for adults with complex mental health needs.

Our employees work in a challenging but rewarding, CQC regulated environment. We are looking for someone who can provide consistent welfare support while helping our HR team with day-to-day administration.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct regular, documented welfare check-ins with employees.
Arrange and hold structured welfare meetings as required.
Maintain a visible presence and speak with staff throughout the home.
Monitor attendance and conduct supportive attendance check-ins.
Maintain accurate and confidential welfare records.
Welcome new starters and support them during their onboarding period.
Act as an approachable point of contact for new employees.
Recognise and appropriately report safeguarding concerns.
Signpost employees to HR, occupational health, the Employee Assistance Programme or other appropriate support.
Assist the HR team with filing, data entry, document preparation and maintaining employee records.
Chase outstanding forms, references, certificates and other documentation.
Provide other practical and administrative support as required.

About You

You will ideally have:

Previous HR, employee-welfare or relevant administrative experience.
Experience working in care, healthcare or social care.
Knowledge of adult safeguarding and appropriate reporting procedures.
Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
The confidence to conduct sensitive welfare and attendance conversations.
A compassionate, approachable and professional manner.
Good IT and written communication skills.
CIPD Level 3 or equivalent practical experience.

Working Pattern

The usual working pattern will be 9:00am–5:00pm, Monday to Friday.

Occasional earlier shifts, such as 7:00am–3:00pm, will be required to meet with night staff or welcome and support new starters on their first day.
