Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our culinary team in the role of Cook. This position offers an excellent opportunity for those with a keen interest in food preparation in a care home kitchen environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in meal preparation, ensuring food safety standards are maintained, and supporting the overall operation of the kitchen. This paid role is ideal for aspiring chefs, catering assistants, or anyone eager to gain practical experience in a professional setting.

Duties

Assist in preparing a variety of dishes according to recipes and standards
Support the cooking process by handling basic food preparation tasks such as chopping, peeling, and measuring ingredients
Ensure all food safety and hygiene regulations are strictly followed during food handling and preparation
Maintain cleanliness of workstations, utensils, and equipment throughout shifts
Help with organising ingredients and supplies to ensure smooth kitchen operations
Contribute to plating and presentation of meals to meet quality standards
Support the team during busy periods by efficiently managing multiple tasks
Adhere to health and safety protocols at all times, including proper storage of perishable items
Ensure dietry requirements are met

Skills

Previous experience or knowledge in food preparation and cooking is essential;
Familiarity with kitchen safety procedures and food hygiene standards
Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Good organisational skills with attention to detail
Strong teamwork ethic and effective communication skills
Willingness to learn new culinary techniques and adapt to different tasks within the kitchen setting
Understanding of meal preparation, food safety practices, and restaurant operations is advantageous
