Full job description

Medical Receptionist – 19 Hours per Week

Mercheford House Surgery
March, Cambridgeshire

We are looking for a friendly, organised and enthusiastic Medical Receptionist to join our busy GP practice team.

The successful applicant will be one of the first points of contact for our patients and will provide a professional and helpful service, both face-to-face and over the telephone.

Working hours

Tuesday: 7.45am–1.00pm
Wednesday: 2.00pm–6.00pm
Thursday: 7.45am–12.00pm
Friday: 1.00pm–6.30pm

Total: 19 hours per week

The successful applicant must also have a flexible approach and be willing to work additional hours when reasonably required to provide cover for colleagues’ holidays, sickness and other absences.

Main duties

Welcoming patients and visitors in a polite and professional manner
Answering telephone calls and dealing with patient enquiries
Booking, changing and cancelling appointments
Supporting patients to access the most appropriate service using agreed care-navigation procedures
Processing patient and administrative tasks accurately
Issuing repeat prescriptions and documents in accordance with practice procedures
Processing incoming and outgoing correspondence
Maintaining accurate and confidential patient records
Supporting the opening and closing of the practice when rostered
Working closely with the wider clinical and administrative team

About you

We are looking for someone who:

Has excellent communication and customer service skills
Is friendly, calm, professional and confident
Can remain organised in a busy environment
Has good IT skills and is willing to learn new systems
Can prioritise their workload and work accurately
Works well independently and as part of a team
Understands the importance of patient confidentiality
Is reliable and adaptable
Can work the stated hours and provide reasonable additional cover when required

Previous experience of working in a GP practice, the NHS or another healthcare environment would be an advantage. Experience of using SystmOne would also be desirable, although appropriate training will be provided.
