Job Purpose
As our Maintenance Operative, you'll play a key role in keeping Ruxley Manor Garden Centre, Grace's Day Nursery and our wider estate safe, attractive and operating smoothly. From carrying out repairs and preventative maintenance to supporting seasonal projects and new displays, you'll help ensure our sites remain welcoming for customers, children and colleagues.
Role Responsibilities
- Carry out day-to-day repairs and maintenance across the site.
- Complete basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating and general building repairs.
- Undertake minor electrical maintenance (within competency), such as replacing light fittings, bulbs and sockets.
- Assemble and install shelving, furniture, fixtures and displays.
- Repair doors, locks, gates, fencing and other site infrastructure.
- Carry out painting, decorating and general refurbishment projects.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from department managers.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance issues before they become larger problems.
- Liaise with external contractors where specialist work is required.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with Health & Safety requirements.
- Maintain tools, equipment and maintenance supplies.
- Support with seasonal projects, store changes and new installations as required.
Essential
- Previous experience in a maintenance, facilities or property maintenance role.
- Good all-round practical maintenance skills, including basic carpentry, plumbing and decorating.
- Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs safely and efficiently.
- Able to prioritise workloads and work independently.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to maintenance.
- Good communication skills and a positive, reliable attitude.
- Takes pride in maintaining high standards of workmanship.
Desirable
- Experience carrying out basic electrical repairs (where competent to do so).
- Experience with general building maintenance across commercial or retail sites.
- Relevant trade qualifications or certifications.
- Full UK driving licence.
