Full job description

Job Overview

We are seeking a friendly, reliable, and customer-focused Community Pharmacy Counter Assistant to join our pharmacy team. The successful candidate will provide excellent service to customers, assist with the sale of medicines and healthcare products, and support the smooth day-to-day operation of the pharmacy.

Responsibilities

Welcome customers and respond to their enquiries in a professional and helpful manner.
Assist customers with the purchase of over-the-counter medicines and healthcare products.
Refer customers to the pharmacist when appropriate, particularly when advice or clinical support is required.
Follow pharmacy procedures and legal requirements for the sale of medicines.
Process payments accurately and operate the till.
Receive, check, price, and display stock.
Monitor stock levels, expiry dates, and product presentation.
Maintain a clean, organised, and welcoming pharmacy environment.
Handle customer information confidentially and sensitively.
Support pharmacy colleagues with general administrative and operational tasks.
Complete required training and maintain up-to-date knowledge of pharmacy products and procedures.

Qualifications

Pharmacy Counter Assistant qualification preferred, or willingness to complete an approved training programme.
Previous experience in a pharmacy, healthcare, retail, or customer-service environment is desirable.
A good standard of written and spoken English.
Basic numeracy and computer skills.

Skills and Personal Qualities

Excellent communication and customer-service skills.
Friendly, approachable, and professional manner.
Ability to listen carefully and recognise when to refer a customer to the pharmacist.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Respect for confidentiality and customer privacy.
Ability to work effectively as part of a busy team.
Dependable, punctual, and willing to learn.
Able to remain calm and helpful when dealing with sensitive situations.
