Full job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as a Regulatory Affairs Specialist at Futamura, Wigton.

Futamura is a major global manufacturer of sustainable, plant-based cellulose films, including the renowned NatureFlex™ compostable films. Futamura processes responsibly sourced wood pulp into sustainable flexible packaging and labelling solutions used by brands worldwide.

What is this role?

As the specialist in Regulatory Affairs, you will be responsible for assisting in all company regulatory affairs activities to contribute to the overall company objectives, whilst ensuring that the company’s products comply with all relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide regulatory expertise on food contact materials, packaging legislation and other product regulatory requirements.
Interpret and apply regulatory legislation, guidance and industry standards, providing practical advice to colleagues across the business.
Monitor changes in legislation and regulatory guidance across the UK, EU, USA and other key markets, assessing their impact on Futamura’s products and business activities.
Collaborate with colleagues across R&D, Sales & Marketing, Production and Procurement to help ensure products comply with applicable global regulatory requirements while supporting innovation and customer needs.
Assess the regulatory compliance of raw materials, formulations and finished products by reviewing supplier documentation, evaluating supporting evidence, and performing migration, formulation and legislative compliance assessments where required.
Prepare regulatory statements, declarations of compliance and other technical documentation, ensuring accuracy, consistency and timely completion.
Provide customers with assurance on product regulatory compliance by responding to technical and regulatory enquiries.
Support the selection of appropriate analytical testing to demonstrate compliance, liaising with external laboratories, consultants and research organisations where required.
Maintain regulatory systems, records and documentation to support product compliance, customer enquiries and regulatory audits.

What skills will you need?

Ideally, as the successful candidate for this role, you will hold a degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science or a related scientific discipline, with proven experience in a Regulatory Affairs role within a manufacturing, chemicals or materials environment.

In addition, you will be able to demonstrate:

Knowledge of food contact regulations, packaging compliance, REACH or similar regulatory frameworks.
Experience managing product compliance.
The ability to interpret complex legislation and practically apply it in a business context.
Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to deliver to deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
Strong analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
A proactive, self-motivated approach with the flexibility to adapt to an evolving regulatory landscape.
