WE’RE HIRING: CAFÉ & DELI SUPERVISOR

The Bedford Cheese Company is looking for a confident, experienced and enthusiastic Café & Deli Supervisor to join our team at The Barn in Cardington.

This is a hands-on leadership role, perfect for someone who enjoys providing excellent customer service, supporting a busy team and getting stuck into every part of the business—from making great coffee to serving customers at our cheese counter.

About the role

As Café & Deli Supervisor, you will help oversee the smooth day-to-day running of both the café and deli. You’ll lead by example, support the management team and ensure that our high standards of service, presentation and cleanliness are maintained throughout every shift.

Your responsibilities will include:

Preparing consistently high-quality coffees and other drinks

Supporting and developing the barista skills of other team members

Serving customers from our specialist cheese and deli counter

Learning about our cheeses, charcuterie and deli products so you can confidently offer recommendations

Cutting, wrapping, weighing and presenting cheeses to a high standard

Supervising the café floor and coordinating the team during busy services

Allocating daily tasks and helping the team remain organised and motivated

Ensuring every customer receives warm, friendly and efficient service

Operating the till, handling payments and assisting with cashing-up procedures

Receiving deliveries, replenishing stock and monitoring stock levels

Maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness, food hygiene and presentation

Assisting with opening and closing responsibilities.

Supporting the business during our particularly busy Christmas period

About you

We are looking for someone who:

Has previous supervisory or team-leadership experience within hospitality or retail
Is a confident and experienced barista
Leads from the front and is happy to work alongside the team
Remains calm, positive and organised during busy services
Has excellent customer-service and communication skills
Is reliable, punctual and able to take responsibility
Is keen to develop their knowledge of cheese and specialist deli products
Has good attention to detail and takes pride in maintaining high standards
Is flexible and willing to support the needs of a growing independent business
Holds food-hygiene training or is willing to complete it

Previous cheese or deli experience would be a real advantage, but full product training can be provided. A genuine interest in food and a willingness to learn are essential.

Working hours

This role will follow an alternating-hours schedule.

An average of around 50–55 hours per fortnight
Shifts may begin at 8:30am and finish at 4:30pm
You must be available to work every other weekend
You will also be required to provide weekend holiday cover for the alternating supervisor as and when needed
Additional flexibility will be required throughout December, including some late-night working
You must also be available for occasional ad hoc evening shifts, typically around two to three evenings per month
